Re: my gardener is taxing me - is that normal?
Are you in NJ? Did they perform any of the following functions:
Seeding Sodding Grass plugging of new lawns Planting trees, shrubs, hedges, plants, etc. Clearing and filling land associated with seeding, sodding, grass plugging of new lawns, or planting trees, shrubs, hedges, plants, etc. This also includes tree/stump removal. Any clearing and filling of land that is not associated with the installation of the above property is not subject to tax, for example, clearing land for a new development. Since the installation of structures remains exempt (see below), clearing and filling land performed in connection with the installation of structures remains exempt from tax.

It's supposed to be taxable. Non-taxable means he's not reporting income = illegal, though it's common practice on LI.

Re: my gardener is taxing me - is that normal?
Posted by MsG not reporting income = illegal
So true - many companies that are 100% legit lose business because they do the right thing. Like my tree guy - he was telling me that he gets underbid a lot because these other tree services use illegal immigrants and don't have the correct insurance (they buy LANDSCAPER'S insurance instead of ARBORIST insurance). All his guys are legal and I would rather have a legitimate company and pay a little more rather than a guy who doesn't pay any taxes.
