My heart goes out to the family of the man who died kayaking in Smithtown
My heart is just breaking for that family. What a terrible loss.

Me too. My mom is very good friends with Patrick's mother in law. I have been crying all day.
And one of our very own LIF members' in laws were the ones who saved little Caden. I will be forever grateful to them!

Re: My heart goes out to the family of the man who died kayaking in Smithtown
I said to my DH, I am sure he could swim. DH told me that sometimes currents can pull even the best swimmers under. I didnt realize that, esp that this could happen on a North Shore beach. I am shocked that this could happen and so sad for that family and that man.

DH and I were talking about this today...that poor little boy, knowing his dad went underwater like that. I can't even imagine...

I agree, my mom and I thought about this as well, since he was NYPD. I just hope this doesnt turn into a discussion about "what was he thinking"...

I was thinking about them last night and wondered if something happened to the father that he couldn't come back to the surface. And how scared that poor little boy must have been floating their by himself.

Ugg, this story breaks my heart Having kayaked that river and area many, many, many times, it really hits home. Also, having a 5 year old myself, I cannot begin to imagine that little boy will go through

The photo of the little boy all alone in the ambulance that was on the cover of yesterday's Newsday broke me heart
Many prayers for that family.

I can't even imagine, that little boy floating out there alone, etc. I told my DH that next time he goes out in OB Harbor sailing or kayaking, he too must wear a life jacket weather he thinks its cool or not!

Re: My heart goes out to the family of the man who died kayaking in Smithtown
I happen to know the family of the couple who rescued the boy and it is so wonderful that they spotted him and took action and that this tragedy did not include two lives.
Many prayers for the Luca family - I hope they are able to get some answers and I hope that the little boy is able to recover emotionally/mentally from this experience as well.
