my kitchen tile... what do you think?
my kitchen's backsplash tile is white with an occassional decorative tile. i don't care for what's on there. i don't need to re-do my whole kitchen, i just want to get rid of the decorative tile.
i'm doing research and i think i found something i like and have the skills to do.
here's the question:
what do you think of still having the sporatic decorative tiles, but instead of apples... each tile is a different replica of a masterpiece. for example: one tile can be van gogh's terrassa de cafe la nuit, another can be warhol's soup can... so forth and so on
so each tile is "food related"
please be brutally honest, if need be.

I don't think i would like that. I think after a while I would get tired looking at it. Also the different styles of art wouldn't "match up".
What if you go with a neutral tile for the decorative one and put up food related prints in your kitchen. that way every few years you can change things around and not be stuck with certain colors.

It's your house, make yourself happy and run with it. The cost of the change should be minimal, so you can do it more than once......

sadly, no.
this is something i would be doing myself. i have found a technique to use to "paint over/cover" the tiles.
i would not be removing any of the tiles in my kitchen, i would be using this technique to COVER the images that are already there.

Re: my kitchen tile... what do you think?
another note:
i'm hoping to re-do my kitchen, someday. just don't have the money right now... this would be the way i can extend the life of the kitchen i already have at a very low cost.

Re: my kitchen tile... what do you think?
while the idea is neat, I am not sure that these types of images would scale down well to small singular tiles. Also, the different palettes (van gogh vs warhol in your example)
I do like the idea of doing cropped versions of the paintings in a straight line across several tiles (more of stripe than just the sporadic tiles) It could read as more of a panoramic view (i.e. van gogh's cafe) or a modern pattern (if you were to use a campbells print)
I think you could definitely use the technique to do something neat, but I'd probably brainstorm some more... jmo!

you're right:
point 1: scaling down, i might just end up with a BLUE tile if i scale down so much.
point 2: like the panoramic idea... was thinking of mabe splitting the image into four blocks (ie, larger square), but i like your idea also
point 3: continue brainstorming...YES! i'm still thinking
thanks for the ideas
