My little boy has cavities
He had some decalcification last year but now they say its cavities, on his two front teeth (where they meet).
Now I have to find a pediatric dentist to have this done at.
Laura- I may be heading your way with questions. Anything you can think of I should know/do.

Re: My little boy has cavities
I can give you the # for Nicholas' dentist. She is awesome. He doesn't have cavities, but she is so good with him for the cleanings. I use her too. SHe's really great. And right by my house.

Re: My little boy has cavities
I took him to my dentist and he was great for cleanings. But now that he has to have work done I want a specific pediatric dentist.

Re: My little boy has cavities
Why does it only have to be a pediatric dentist? If you SOLELY want a pediatric dentist, there is one in the same building that ONLY sees kids. My friend just brought her daughter there when 2 of her teeth were nearly knocked out. I can get the info for ya if you want. And why are you still at work?

I just feel they will be better equipped to make it a less traumatic experience. I have names of a couple of people.
And I am still at work because I am an LIF addict, at least the computer here is faster than at home.

Re: My little boy has cavities
Let me tell ya...Nicholas' dentist is awesome. She gave him all the tools to hold, look at, feel. She took his picture with this little camera, then he took hers. She said the chair was a rocket ship and they were gonna blast off. She was a pip! You know Nicholas...he's scared of the unknown. The kid didn't sleep the night before his first app't. After that visit, he asks to go back all the time! Oh...and she gave a nice goody bag when we left chock full of all dentisty- but cool things!
Yeah...I fell ya. I should be cooking now...and you can see what I'm doing!

Emma and Jeremy both go to a ped dentist who is fabulous (even when Jeremy threw up on her ) but she is in Southampton.

We have to deal with this too. DS is 4 and 1/2 and he needed to get his front top 4 teeth pulled with root canals and caps on 4 molars. It was so stressful-but DS handled it like a champ. He was totally unfazed.

Re: My little boy has cavities
Sorry to hear about the cavities but hey it happens to the best of us right! As far as going to a pediatric dentist it is not totally necessary unless you think he will be uncooperative or scares easily. most general dentists that treat kids have taken ped. courses and know all the kid friendly language...but if YOU are more comfortable with a ped dentist go there because he will know if you are nervous and you don't want him to pick up on that! As for preparing him he has been to a dentist so he pretty much knows how the office goes and what a dental chair is...I don't know if you want to get into what is going to be done-not that I am one for surprising kids but descriptions are a delicate matter and if you don't know the kid friendly language you may end up scaring the child more and making him anxious which you don't want. You want him to think this visit will be as painless and simple as the others with the exception of a new face and some new noises , bumpy feelings (from the drill)-DON'T call it a drill if he doesn't know that word! Also he may feel like he has a fat lip after the appt (WATCH him because kids live to play with numb lips,tongues... and will bite them not know how hard and really hurt themselves! If you have any questions feel free to FM me!

Re: My little boy has cavities
Thanks everyone. Ryan is fabulous at the dentist, not scared, sits still, the model patient I have been told. This is the child who was upset he didnt get a shot at his physical this year.
I am afraid that will change once it hurts. I went to a pediatric dentist till I was 18, of course I am fine now and love my dentist. I go every 3 months now
But he said he wouldnt fill cavities on a four year old and referred me somehwere. Honestly I would feel more comfortable.
Laura- I do have some specific questions. I am going to FM you now, hope you dont mind,.
