My little guy hurt a baby bird
For the past 2 days, we have had 2 non flying baby birds in our yard. They are not that small but they can't fly just yet.
Well, today I let ALL my dogs loose in the yard, not thinking the birds would still be in the yard.
One of my 5yo dog chases bird for a hobby but they fly away before he reaches them. But not this time and my big baby followed the other dog and they were chasing this baby bird who could not fly. I ran after them, screaming to stop. They kind of did but the baby mastiff was too excited to "play" with the birdy. Anyway. I kept saying no and he stepped back and accidentaly stepped on the baby bird who gasp for air (it was REALLY traumatic for me!! Sorry!!). My dog stepped back. I thought the baby bird was going to die. He just sat there not moving.
I took my dogs back in the house. Starting crying that dogs killed a bird. My 5yo dogs knew I was very upset.
The baby bird is not dead afterall. But one of his little wing is broken. I think! He/She can't move it.
Will this baby bird die? What should I do? I don't know how to brace a bird wing.

Re: My little guy hurt a baby bird
I think Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown might take the bird. I know they do some rehab there. Maybe try calling them on Monday? I am sorry, that's very upsetting. My dogs once cornered a bird too and I was screaming...the bird looked up at me, very still, with a sad look like "help me". OMG. So sad. But the bird did hop away, and I never saw it again so I assumed it was ok. Not your fault, these things do happen.

Yes, I'd call someone and describe the situation. There's hope! A lot of times, they are not as fragile as we think.
