My mechanic totally screwed me over - need advice
I will try to make a long story short. the power window motor on my car blew and the mechanic I get oil changes at told me he could save me a lot of money by fixing it for me rather than me go to the dealer.
so in October, he replaced the motor and then told me that the weather stripping got badly damaged and that he needs to replace that part too and that I can't use my window until it's replaced. 2 MONTHS LATER (this past Monday), he finally gets the weather strip in (every time I called, it was another excuse on why he didn't get it yet). so he installs it for me on Monday and tells me to wait a few days to let it set. fine.
I just tried the window for the first time and OMG!!!!!!!!! it goes up and down SO SLOW! and it making a weird noise too. I want to KILL HIM! this cost me $360!!!!!!!
how would you handle this?

Go back and tell him it's too slow and that you are unhappy.

yikes i would tell him i wanted a refund. you should have had a glasier do it - someone like south shore glass or safelight - i had mine done it took half an hour and they came right to the house.

I agree. I would also call the dealer & see what he would charge. The same thing is happening to my car. My BIL told me it could be very expensive to fix.

UGH! I am so angry I should have gone with my gut instinct. this guy is a crook.

you need to go back and tell him it was unacceptable. He has to fix it again.

Not necessarily - I had some work done on my truck at the dealer and they totally botched it up along with other things. Then they wouldn't fix what they screwed up or the other things that they did.
I would go back and tell him that it's slow and you want it fixed. Was it a normal speed before he replaced the stripping or did he do the whole job at once? If it was okay before, the stripping might either need to be adjusted or wear in. It also may be that it needs a little lubrication. If he is a reliable mechanic he should be able to take care of it.

If he is a reliable mechanic he should be able to take care of it. when I brought it in (over 2 months ago), the motor was on it's way out. the window would go down (faster than now!) but not up. DH used needle nose pliers to get the window closed.
I didn't use the window for 2 months (like he told me) until he got the stripping, which was this past Monday. so I don't know how it worked.
I am no car expert, but IMO, I think the motor he sold me is bad.
it sounds like you know what you're talking about so I will go into more detail. the part at the dealer ($300) comes with the regulator attached. the regulator is the part that the window sits on. he was able to get just the motor part, for $100.

Re: My mechanic totally screwed me over - need advice
I think the regulator is just a balancing thing (not sure) so it wouldn't affect the speed. If he got a used or rebuilt part that would definitely explain why it's going so slow. I would assume it's used or rebuilt just cuz of the price.
I would still go back and tell him you want it fixed. He should stand behind his work.

I just remembered that a few weeks ago I passed through a police check point for seatbelts. so I did in fact use the window. Just lowered it a little bit though, and it did go down faster than it does now. so maybe like you said, it is the new stripping?
