My mom just called me and upset me..

Mom takes care of Milani in our house every day. Unfortunately she is a smoker and I HATE it..but that's her choice/preference. Since we don't allow it in the house, she chooses to go downstairs in front of the house to smoke, when we have told her she can go on the balcony.

DH is working OT (which he told her). She calls me at work to ask me if he's working a double and I tell her yes. She says "oh I didn't know". I ignore that because that seems to be her reply for EVERYTHING she forgets. I ask her "why?" She says "I wanted to go down to smoke". So I tell her "why don't you go on the balcony?" She says "no" and catches an attitude.

Umm..what is the difference with going DOWNSTAIRS in front of the house and going on the balcony? More importantly, what exactly do you expect for me to do at work? Take the train for 45 minutes while you step out?

You gave her the option to go to the balcony. If she opted not to do it, then don't beat yourself up about it!
