My mom's basement is flooded
She didn't want to go down b/c the electric was still on and she didn't want to get electrocuted so my brother (he's a cop) told her to call the fire department. They came within 5 minutes and went down and unplugged everything and turned off the oil burner, etc. They told her still not to go down, just in case. The fire department told her that it looks like it's seeping in through the foundation, and they've been responding to these calls all day.
Now she has to get the insurance adjuster in. Her insurance company told her that it make take over a week to get someone over there.

Re: My mom's basement is flooded
I'm sorry to hear about this! My mother's basement had some leaks too but they weren't very bad. Maybe your mom should take pictures, just to have to be sure.

Re: My mom's basement is flooded
Thanks. It ended up taking all day and we're still not totally done. The unfinished part is dry, but the side with carpeting is still pretty wet. But we used 2 pumps and 2 shop vacs and were able to get the 5 inches of water out. We are so tired now!
Since it was rain, it's not covered under her homeowners. She doesn't have flood insurance since she's not in a flood area. This is the first time this happened in the 16 years she's lived in the house. Seems like the ground was just too saturated and it started leaking in through the foundation.

Re: My mom's basement is flooded
I feel your mom's pain. We have owned our home 2 months and Friday we came home to just about a foot of water in my very finished basement. It looks like not much was lost but only time will tell with floors and walls if we dried them up in time right now it looks and smells fine. It is just so depressing
