my name is lizbeth and i'm a yarn addict

*group: "hello, lizbeth"

yes, ladies and gentlemen, i sit before my keyboard and am admitting i have a problem.

i was cleaning the back room (which is what we call the sun room), which is where i keep my craft supplies... mostly yarn.

well, let's just say that i had forgotten some of what i own, and re-bought some items. just when i thought i was done and the shame could start to subside... i turn to leave the room, and what do i see??? four more bags full of yarn.

yes, i'm addicted to cashmere, alpaca, pima cotton, wool, merino wool, superwash. i have enough sock yarn to never have to buy socks at target as long as i live.

i think it's time to start knitting from my stash and not visit another yarn store until we relocate... this way, i'll have less to pack

Raising my hand here :)

I knit regularly and do a little sewing when I have time (with a 5 yo and 2 yo, this doesn't happen much, lol). So I have yarn and fabric stashes that would probably take me a couple YEARS to get through.

So far I've been disciplining myself in 2011 and have stuck to projects that utilize stuff in my stash. But it's hard to resist the siren song of a yarn store :)

lizbeth, that's not an addiction, that's your YRA - Yarn Retirement Account. You're just very smart to plan ahead and stash yarn now for your later years when you may be on a fixed income - then you'll be able to withdraw yarn from your YRA to keep you in wool and alpaca during your golden years.

Chat Icon I used to spend alot of time on a knitting forum and that was a favorite explaination for large stashes of yarn. Another favorite acronym was to talk about a HALFPINT - it stood for Have a Lovely Fantasy Project - I've No Time!

That would apply to the half a dozen large bins of yarn, several cross stitch canvases, and all my scrapbooking supplies around my house. My photography has taken all my time recently Chat Icon

I feel you. I'm like that with scrapbooking supplies. I have more paper than I know what to do with.
