My neighbor's dog killed another dog on my block

This is just horrible. My neighbor has a mixed breed female dog who is VERY aggressive toward other female dogs. She bit Lexie once (nothing too major) and also bit another dog a few months ago. The dog, Gwen, escapes a lot and attacks the other dogs on my block. She's really scary actually. I am afraid for my children AND my dog.

The other day she got loose from her leash and attacked a tiny Yorkie that my other neighbor was walking on a leash. Well, Gwen killed that poor sweet pup. About three of my dog-loving neighbors witnessed it, it was terrible but they couldn't get Gwen off of the Yorkie.

So now there is a war between my neighbors and they are going to court next week. Do you think they should put Gwen down? I feel terrible but at this point my whole block is scared of her and we ALL have dogs.

That is terrible. I do not know whether that dog should be put to sleep but it is clear that the current owners have no control over that dog and something has to change.

i hate to say it but yes the dog should be put dowm if it goes after dogs(bigger or smaller) who is to say that one day it wouldn't go after a child or adult. and being that this dog has done this before in the past and she gets out... it's a safer then sorry situation

Considering the dog is aggressive, the owners should have made sure the dog isn't getting out. It's not that hard! A shame this dog will probably be put down because their owner is irresponsible.


I would not want that dog on my block either. The dog should probably be put down, before something else happens.
What if a child had been holding that dog? What could have happened ?

i am surprised the dog wasn't put down having attacked two other dogs prior to this. this is so sad... and as much as i am a dog lover, if they cannot control her, they yes, she should be put down. poor yorkie.

That is very sad. I think the dog should be put down if this was not the first attack. It really upsets me to hear this, it is not the dogs fault it is the owners fault. There is no excuse for this.

This is a tragic situation. In spite of the fact the owner has a history of being irresponsible (post stated dog has gotten loose in the past), it appears the dog was on leash as was the other when this happened. The quickest way to get a dog's mouth off another is to take a broom, stick, anything long and stick it in the mouth which will cause the dog to stop, if even for a few moments which may be time enough to get the animal that is being attacked to safety. If it is not proven the owner was negligent, it will be a civil matter. The court should order the dog always be muzzled when walked in public places and never left unattended.
I do not feel the dog should be euthanized. If anything, the owner should receive a civil penalty and jail/community service.

That's terrible!! That poor dog, those poor people. If ANYNONES dog hurt Arnold, no less KILL him? Oh, it's on my friend. (Meaning, ya damn straight I am suing those pet owners).

No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

What a shame... That dog will most likely be put down b/c her owners couldn't handle her and get that dog help.

This is HORRBILE. This dog will have to suffer because of very irresponsible owners. There are plenty of Dog aggressive dogs living very happy lives with owners who control them. It's a shame every way you look at it....

wow, i don't know what the answer is. i don't think the dog should be punished for his owners stupidity. i agree with a previous poster who said that the dog should be muzzled when out in public. i feel bad for the yokie's family what a horrific thing to witness. thoughts and prayers go out to them.

I agree.
I'm pretty sure Gwen's owners have tried everything to get her under control...they have tried hiring trainers, the took her to obedience school, etc. She has been this way since she was a pup. However, something went wrong somewhere, and I do place blame on the owners because that dog gets loose way too often.

I hate to say this... but it might be best for all if the dog is put down. That yorkie could've been a child ... or person. If you all fear the dog that much, it's obviously a big problem. You shouldn't be afraid that the dog will get out and maul someone. WHen a dog is a danger to the extent that this one is.... I know its hard to say... but put down might be the safest option

eta: I am disapointed and sorry that this dog will endure this bc of the owners not having enough control.

omg I have a Yorkie and I would go ballistic if he was killed by another dog!! yes, that dog should be put down.
