my parents can be such jerks
Dh is a big guy hes 6'5(maybe taller) and was born at just under 13lbs. Everyone in his family is very tall, his mother is 6'1, his sister is 5'11. I am 5'6.
My parents think they are so funny and keep making jokes that the baby is going to be huge so my mom went out and bought kids size 3 shoes and sent them to me all wrapped up with a note that said " babies first shoes" and my dad went out and bought a box of depends for us as diapers. They think that this is just hysterical, but it is really making me upset, I feel like they keep making fun the baby...and its really hurting me, but they dont see it that way, they think its the funniest joke ever
ugh just needed to vent

I think you should try to talk to them and tell them how you feel. It is going to be a looonnnnggg pregnancy if you have to put up with these "jokes" throughout the whole time.

awww im sorry.. I know family can be mean .. My father just a few days ago was making fun of my DD's baby achne (who was just 2 weeks old at time), i was very upset by it..
Like they always say you cant pick your family.

Sorry your family is teasing you. I come from teasers too, and it can be upsetting at times.
It would be funny if your baby was not as big as they expect, and it can happen. SIL is 5'3" and BIL was 6'4" or so, and my nephew was 7 pounds and still tiny for his age.

Thats exactly what it is, we are all goofballs and sometimes it goes too far and feelings get hurt- in retaliation I told my father that he is just jealous of the baby because its going to have more hair at birth than he does
After I got off the phone with them I mumbled" its going to be real funny when the baby is tiny and you two look like a$$holes..." to myself

I don't think they realize they are doing it, but you should really tell them that they should stop because to you, it is not funny.

If it bothers you, you should say something. They probably dont realize you are being affected by it.
With that said, I think its kinda cute, they are not making fun of the baby at all. They are obviously very excited about the new arrival. Try not to see it as a personal attack as I am sure thats not how your family intends it. Sometimes teasing or joking is how people express their feelings.
I too come from a family of teasers, my brother currently calls me chubby girl (even to my niece and nephew), my dad tells me all the time how big I am....I guess as I am one of them I have come to accept it. I know they care and I know they are happy about the baby and would do anything for me or the baby so thats what's important.

I'm sure it's not intentional but it's a joke that has gone too far because it's effecting your feelings now. I would try having a talk with them and making them realize this is something that is really bothering you and kindly ask them to stop. I'm sure they will respect your wishes

I guess I had it coming, I taught my nephew when he was first speaking that my dads name is broccoli....my nephew is now 7, and still calls him that, in stores, at school he tells his teacher he went to broccolis house for the weekend. We have tried to correct him now that he is older, but he insists that his name is not grandpa its broccoli. I guess I have to take it if I dish it out

You never know about baby sizes. My family is from the land of the giants. My sil family is like you, average. My brothers kids were barely 7lbs at birth. So you never know. You may very well have a small or average size baby. Sorry they are being jerks
