My parents house is for sale
I just listed it today on MLS and we got a call for a showing within two hours from another agent.
It's so weird to think the house I grew up in won't be ours for much longer.
But - on the upside, my parents will be closer and it will be easier for babysitting purposes!
How did you all feel when/if your parents sold the house you grew up in?

Re: My parents house is for sale
I am going through this right now. My parents put their house up on the market a week ago (lived there my entire life). They had an accepted bid on it 4 days later & now the contracts are signed. I could not believe this was all happening so quickly. Every time I go there now, I can't believe someone else will be living there & that all our memories will be just that now.
Unfortunately for me, my parents are moving 400 miles away, so it is a little harder for me. Right now, the old house & my house are 2 miles apart, so I pass by almost everyday. It is going to be strange to see someone else in the front yard & not be able to pull into the driveway

Re: My parents house is for sale
My parents did this about 3 years ago... and honestly, it really upset me. I think it was also becauase I was graduating college, and other changes were going on, but I was none too pleased.
It's weird though because as soon as I moved, I didn't feel like I was going home anymore, just to visit my parents at their house and don't feel very comfortable there at all.
But I guess it's different since I live so far away, too.

Re: My parents house is for sale
My parents sold the house we grew up in when I was 19 and I was devastated. They were divorcing and they wanted a fresh start but it took me a long time to get over it. Now I just wish I could buy it back.

Re: My parents house is for sale
I was very sad when my parents sold my childhood home. I cant beleive its going to be 5 years in August they are out of the house!!
I remember going there that last day, walking through the house and crying.

My parents sold our house when I was 16 and I was devastated. I wouldn't leave my room on the day we moved. I guess because we moved into this house when I was older, I don't have the same kind of attachment.

Re: My parents house is for sale
I actually wasnt sad when my parents sold my house that I grew up in - in 2004.
Danielle and I just got married and my parents bought a condo. I was happy for them because I knew that they wouldnt be burdened with bills anymore and they could enjoy the time they had left.
My mom passed away less than 2 months after they moved there and my dad passed away 2 years after that.
I am just glad that they werent still in the house in lynbrook. It would of been a lot harder for my father after my mom passed.
My mother made sure that my dad was out of the lynbrook house and in a condo where he wouldnt have so many bills. Scott

Re: My parents house is for sale
Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.
My mom keeps looking at the pictures of her house on MLS saying "I love my bedroom, my dining room is so pretty" - I think it's going to be really hard for everyone. Plus, that means I'm going to have to go through ALL of my stuff that I have been storing in their basement since I moved out after college. That should be fun.
The hard part will be for them to find a house after - but I guess everything works out in the end.

Re: My parents house is for sale
it was VERY hard for me to deal with my Dad selling the house- I fully understood why he wanted to get rid of it- He gave it away- to a young couple that reminded him of my mom and himself when he is younger
I will never be able to drive past it-
I don't think it's ever easy to see the house you grew up in go-

Re: My parents house is for sale
my dad keeps talking about "his condo" but I know my mom is not ready to move. When they do decide to sell it will be very hard for me.. I can't imagine not being able to go to the house I grew up in anymore, and someone coming in and changing everything.
Whenever I watch that show "moving up" I always feel so sad for the people who lived somewhere for 30 years and then come back to see the new owners have changed everything.
