My SIL's friends home burnt down..due to a couch..(link to sofa attached)
Figured I would post this warning in case anyone has this couch. Since she posted about it, it turns out 2 FB friends own the same one!! It's from Bob's discount furniture.
The investigation is still going on but it was determined that the fire in the home started due to faulty wiring in this couch. They lost EVERYTHING but thankfully got out safely. Their precious dog however didn't make it out.
She posted on her wall that if anyone owns this couch to get rid of it or have it inspected ASAP.

pic of the damage..

That's terrible and I am glad they are ok. OMG< so sad their dog did not make it. But I am confused. What do you mean by wiring in this couch? Is it automatic recliner or something?

From what I understand, there is wiring in the couch for the recliners (like you said). I guess it was faulty. They were able to determine that the fire started in the couch..it happened well after everyone was asleep, crazy..

Wow, we have that couch. I just showed my husband and we both said we don't ever want to plug it in again. I wonder if there are other incidents like this that have occurred or if this is the only one. Time to do some research on our part. Scary!! Thank God the family got out, poor doggie!

Yes, two of the chairs and the chaise have electric recliners.

That poor family! Heartbreaking to lose their dog.
I have the stand-alone recliner. I couldn't find any info online about faulty wiring. If anyone finds anything, can you post it here? So scary!!!

Hers may have very well been the only one made where wiring wasn't right..I'm sorry if my post causes unnecessary worry but she wanted people to share the link and it seems many have this item..when I get full report I will post an update!

Oh my I am so sorry..That is extremely scay and im sorry they lost their dog. Did they call Bobs and tell them what happened? I hope they recall this item and hope that others can exchange for a different couch if they have it. If I had this couch I would be asking for a new one.

I would make sure it is unplugged when you go to bed. And I would either have it inspected somehow or get something else. I'm not one to usually get too worried about things, but her facebook posts were so distressing.
I asked SIL how they knew it started in the couch..I guess during the inspection they could tell the fire started from beneath it...they actually knew the exact spot it started. Not sure how they tell those things, but I guess there are methods.
Just don't leave it plugged in when you're in bed or away from home and you're ok. But I know no one wants to have to remember those things all the time..
