My son said he wishes the baby was never born
I have a 12 y/o from a previous relationship. He was so happy when we told him I was having a baby. Now almost a month after she was born he just told me he wishes she was never born. I know he feels neglected. I'm trying to spend time with him but its so hard b/c the baby is alway crying, nurses every 2 hours. DH is working alot. I feel terrible that he hates his little sister. He said it so sincerely. How do you all manage with having more than one child?

that is tough...I think you should let him feel the way he feels and just reinforce that no matter how many children are in the family, you have plenty of love to go around
My dd is only 2 years old (she will be 3 in march) and so far, she seems to love her baby brother (3 months old)...but that can change in an instant, I am sure

I'm sure he's just having a little bit of a tough time adjusting....try not to take it to heart

Re: My son said he wishes the baby was never born
I have an 8 year old and a 1year old. I knew it was going to be tough when DD#2 came along. I was so nervous. I will tell you that I absolutly make one on one time with her on a regular basis. I take advantage of nap time and an early bed time. I am her Brownie leader and class mom. I also work 3 long days a week. I am exhausted but it is all worth it to me. I try to have DH have one on one time too. I will have my mom or MIL watch DD#2 or pay a sitter. DH works nights in the city, and alot of overtime, so again it is hard, but we make it work. I do not know if I am just lucky, but the transition has been good for us, way better than I thought. I hope things smooth out for you guys!

Re: My son said he wishes the baby was never born
It will get better. I am 12.5 years older then my sister. I felt very neglected when she was born. It helped to be involved. I liked giving her bottles and playing with her as she got older but I felt very left out in the beginning. I would try to set up a mother son time for once a week. Leave dd with dh and pump a bottle if need be. Go to dinner or a movie. Just you and him. Soon he will be a teen and want no part of you so take advantage of it now. Just to let you know my sister is very close to me and my older siblings despite the age differences. It will work out it just takes some time and work

Re: My son said he wishes the baby was never born
thanks for the reassurance. It just hurt me so much to hear him say that and it hurts me more to know that hes hurting
