My Surgery was on Friday...

I'm so happy, my nasal polyp/sinus surgery is finally scheduled for Friday March 13. (Yes, Friday the 13th...)

Only problem is that it's so far away. I can't wait to be able to smell, taste, breathe, and actually blow my nose.

People have been telling me that recovery is difficult and recurrance is high, but I don't have a choice anymore.

I of course need to go for the pre-surgery blood tests, cat scans, xrays and doctor releases - fun. Too many phone calls and appointments to make, but in the end it will be worth it.

I will also admit that I'm looking forward to a week away from work, even though it means that I will need to have surgery for it! Chat Icon

If anyone has had this surgery and has any recovery tips, I would appreciate it!

Re: Yay, my surgery is scheduled!

Good luck with this!!! I hope you get the relief you need. One of my friends did this and it changed her life.

I have suffered with HORRIBLE sinus problems my whole life and was actually scheduled for this surgery a few years ago, but I chickened out. I was scared of the packing after the surgery. How ridiculous was I? Chat Icon Chat Icon I wish with everything I have in me that I had gone through with it.

Re: My Surgery is on Friday..

Well it's been a long time coming, but my surgery is finally upon me - this Friday. Last night I finished all of my Cat Scans, EKG, Chest Xrays, blood tests and medical clearance. Now I sit and wait until Friday at 8:30AM. In talking to the surgeon he also saw from the last cat scan that I also have a deviated septum; so that will also be fixed, along with fixing my sinuses and removing the nasal polyps. The surgery time has gone up now to 4 hours. Chat Icon

I have been having stomach issues for the past week - probably due to being anxious and nervous so I spoke to the surgeon and he gave me a script for Valium. Chat Icon

Let the countdown begin....

Re: My Surgery is on Friday..

Good Luck on Friday!!!

I had surgery to repair a deviated septum in 2006. Greatest decision I ever made. While the recovery was a bit rough, I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Please, PLEASE take it easy for as long as the Dr tells you to.

*Sorry if this is graphic**

One week after surgery I decided to do what I thought was light housework- honestly, it was not too strenuous, but was to much taking into consideration what was going on. I had little bits of like runny nose mixed with blood, b I just ignored it. I went to bed that evening and when laying down I felt like my nose started to bleed- I got up and went to the bathroom for tissues. At this point, my nose was bleeding very badly- I had my head hanging over the toilet and the blood was running out of my nose. Not dripping, literally running out and showed no signs of stopping. Ended up going to the ER, they packed it (it was like they shoved a tampon in my nose!) and it finally stopped.

Ended up going to the ENT's office the next morning and he quarterized the bleeding area. I had ZERO problems from then on.

The packing after surgery is nasty, but is only in for 1 day. The removal sux too, but it's fairly quick.

If you have ANY questions, please FM

Good Luck!!

Surgery was changed until 2:30PM... booo.. Now I get to stew all day long.

I'm not doing dishes or laundry tonight, I'll do it tomorrow to give me something to do.

Worst thing is no drinking (or eating) for 15 hours before I even go into surgery. I'd be unhappy, but OK about not eating but the water, I'm thirsty already. At 11:45PM I am going to chug a gallon.

I just saw this - and wanted you to know I was thinking of you!

BTW in all my FM's I never got to tell you that my polyps never returned. So don't worry about that right now.

I hope it went well and you have a speedy recovery and some great movies to watch!

Thanks for the messages!

I'm back, and in that nice drug induced haze. Now just dealing with the constant faucet on my face. Chat Icon Everything went OK they tell me. I don't know if they fixed the deviated septum or not; the surgeon told me before I went in that it was a 'game time decision' and if it wasn't too bad he was not going to put me thru the pain of fixing it.

Worst part of the whole ordeal was anestesiologiest (sp?) gave me some shot to cut down on the fluid in my lungs, throat due to my asthma. This made the insertion and removal of the breathing tube wreck my throat pretty bad. So I feel like I have strep throat and can't swallow on top of it all. I came home last night and had ice cream. Yeah, I'm about ready to get these packings removed...... I think I'll feel a whole lot better when they're out. Both anticipation and dread at the same time for them to come out.. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm going with a PP's suggestion and taking 2 Oxy's an hour before the appt. They may need to wheel me in there, but hopefully I remember and feel nothing. Chat Icon

I took two and it wasn't too bad. I felt some pain/pressure/burning but watching him get it out freaked me out more than anything. I should have closed my eyes..... but I'm nosey and want to see it all. Chat Icon

I didn't know that I also have stints up there - those need to come out Friday morning. I think I'll only take 1 pain pill that time though - 2 makes me really loopy and emotional....

I still have weird teeth numbness; hopefully it goes away soon.
