my 'terror" event into the city..
so I had to go into the city today and figured I would take the express bus, I was the first passenger ont he bus and knew the bus driver cause he frequently takes me into the city.. cause it was mid-afternoon the bus was not crowded as we went to other stops... we picked about 6 old pple along the way (ud think we were going to atlantic city ) anyways... at the last stop b4 we get onto the high way, a man got on... now i must say from the moment i saw him my radar went up up up.. not to be stereotypical but he was of middle easter decent AND had a bookbag that was huge and stuffed to the gills, he sat right up front where the bus driver was sitting... NOW LET ME TELL YOU... i did not stop watching this guy he was very fidgty, and i knew the bus driver as well was watching him in the mirror... long story short, we get to the midtown tunnel and there are cops everywhere!!! so the bus driver slows and stops by the cops and says 'oh ur checkingall the buses right" and they say no u can go threw.. and the bus driver says AGAIN oh we got a memo that ur checking all buses... UM HELLO U STUPID PPPLE OBVIOUSLY THE BUS DRIVER IS PERSISTING FOR A DAM REASON... anyways FINALLY the cops caught the drift, and all of a sudden there r a dozen cops coming over.. they come on the bus, check every bag, every inch, they take the guy off the bus, and search him and his bags---which were filled with pices of equipment, (supposedly he owns a cell phone store) they even emptied his water bottle..... then they came on and questioned me...cause i was obviously the youngest coherent memeber ont he bus LOL... thankfully i dont think they found anything but we were detained for a good half hour, and i was so proud of the bus driver and the way he handl;ed the situation... it was much better to be safe then sorry especially when bus's r rarely checked going into midtown tunnel for gods sake! AND here i thought it would be easier taking the bus not the train NEVER A DULL MOMENT

That is great that the driver persisted. Thank God the cops came to their senses about the situation.

Very scary for both you & I'm sure the guy of Middle Eastern descent. Can you imagine being the scrutiny of everyone because other people of the same descent are wacko fundamentalist? No wonder the guy was sweating.
I'm not saying it's not necessary to check bags & yes, I believe that profiling does work, but think about that poor man with no water bottle...
Not sure if you guys read NY Mag's aritcle - but there is an actual profile of a suicide bomber - May smell of herbal or flower water . . . as they may have sprayed perfume . . . to prepare for Paradise and praying fervently. Perfume is also apparently used to stabilize certain explosive mixtures.

yes it was very scary and im glad it turned out to be nothing, to some level i felt very bad for the guy yet better to be safe then sorry, the thing that did make me more mad, was being that he is of middle eastern decent and KNOWS he is obviously looked at as a threat u would think he would go out of his way to not be carrying a huge suspicious looking book bag filled with "cell phone parts"

Ever since I was in London on the day of the bombings (my honeymoon) I aam very vigilant about checking EVERYONE out who walks near me. I would have thought the same way.

Is that fair, really?
Would you want to have to limit your packages, or be careful what you were carrying just because you happen to be a certain race? Maybe he needed to get that stuff in to the city, and taking a bus was his only option. I am not trying to cause trouble- I see where you are coming from and this is a scary time for everyone, but it has to be just as scary (if not more) for innocent people who get targeted for the way they look.

actually i do think its fair, unfortunatly certain cultures are associated with different things, not there fault mind you..but if anyone in any situation has nothing to hide then id assume they would go out of their way to show-so.. jmo, of course...
