My thoughts on "A Baby Story" (Weird Update)
So I DVR'd a bunch of episodes and watched about 5 back to back and learned a few things:
#1 - That there is no way in hell I would ever go on that show. I would never want something so personal broadcast on national television - especially with the entourage of family members on both sides.
#2 - That when the doc tells you not to eat before a scheduled c-section, you JUST DON'T EAT!
#3 - That water births are amazing but not for me.
#4 - That the visual of DH in scrubs and a mask cracks me up
#5 - That absolutely nobody besides me, DH and the docs and nurses will be in that delivery room.
#6 - That not having my father with me now hurts more than I ever thought it could. I never wanted to name my child FOR him. I wanted my father to hold my child
UPDATE: I was in Century 21 today and saw one of the couples that I saw in one of the episodes of A Baby Story. They were a military couple that delivered at NCMC. If I hadnt just seen the show, I wouldnt have given them a second thought. I wish I said something!

I missed not having my dad around my wedding very much (he passed away when i was 10)- i am starting to miss him again a lot since being pregnant- but i feel really lucky to name our child after him because it will be a daily reminder of him and it is a way to have him in our lives daily- im also excited to see our with DH since i dont remember being with my dad much...

Re: My thoughts on "A Baby Story"
I can relate too... my dad passed away when I was 13.
It does get pretty sad during wedding / pregnancies.... but then again, we're hardly alone. Many people have had to deal with the exact same situation....
our dads are definitely here in spirit

Re: My thoughts on "A Baby Story"
i could never do this show. i am a screamer and the ladies on this show are so well-behaved
i can't imagine not having either parent there with me to hold my child when he/she is born. i only have lots of for those who have to deal with that.
and thanks for the tip goldi... i will definitely make sure my mom gets a shot of DH in scrubs

This is a tough one for me as well. My dad passed away this past year. I was so lucky my dad was able to meet my dd and hold her. I hold on to those memories.
Now, I'm pregnant with my second. I definitely agree with you on #6. Sometimes when I watch a baby story it brings me to tears to see how special a grandfathers love is.
I have to agree with wannabemom, our dads our definitely here in spirit!!!

I just have this feeling that this child will look like him or have one element of his personality.

Re: My thoughts on "A Baby Story"
I stopped watching .....when the one episode i saw just freaked me out when the woman was yelling at her husband to go into her bag and get her, her rosary beads...that made me so nervous she was in a water filled tub..and I'm assuming that her pain was pretty intense!

Re: My thoughts on "A Baby Story"
I'm sure your dc will have one element that reminds you of your dad.
I know when I look at my dd, I think she has my dad's blue eyes. I have brown eyes and my husband has blue eyes, but something about my dd's reminds me of my dad's.

i'm cosigning on this also!! my dad and my daughter were best friends.. he passed two years ago when she was 5.. she still talks about him regularly and says she misses him.. as painful as it is for me to talk to her about him because i miss him so much i do alot because i dont' want her to ever forget him.. i show her pics of him regularly and even let her here his voice on old videos..
when planning my wedding the thought of my dad missing hurt like h*ll.. now with this baby the pain is fresh and anew..

Re: My thoughts on "A Baby Story"
It's funny, because even though this is my 4th baby, I find watching the show really tough!! I completely cringe!!
My sister is a Labor/Delivery nurse at NCUMC (where they actually do water births - who knew!?) and was on one of the shows - she said she could not understand how the women compromise their privacy so willingly..... ah well, it's not for everyone, that's for sure!

I am willing to bet they do not show all of the shows that they tape.

Re: My thoughts on "A Baby Story"
My dr gave me some advice, he said to stop watching a baby story - My L&D nurse who delivered my daughter was on the show recently and said they edit soooo much. A lot of the footage and interviews she was in was scrapped and so much of the delivery was as well.

Re: My thoughts on "A Baby Story"
On #6......I lost both of my parents long before I got married. It is tough not having them with me as I marvel everyday in watching my son grow up, but DH and I are lucky to have some other older relatives and friends who are willing surrogates.
It's certainly not the same, but I try to focus on how many people love this little guy and since he is the youngest cousing in the family by 7 yrs on one side and 21 years on the other, he has lots of cousins who adore him. You'll probably see qualities of your dad in him - I swear my niece is my mom reincarnated.
The scrub photos are priceless.
