My twins don't want their 1st bottle anymore....normal? Feeding help, please :-)

My boys just turned 9-months old and their feeding schedule has been like this:

5:30am - 1st bottle (7oz)

9:30am - 2nd bottle (7oz), and cereal mixed with fruit and some of their formula

1pm - 3rd bottle (7oz), with 4oz jar of veggies or fruit

5:00pm - 4th bottle (7oz)

7:00pm - last bottle (7oz)

For the last 2 days, they have not wanted their 1st bottle......daycare told us that this happens as they get older and more interested in solids. I will confirm this with pediatrician on Friday when they go for their shots, but I wondered if any of you experienced this?

Also, I will be asking doc when to give solids for dinner (in addition to the 4th bottle, I guess?, not instead of?), as I think they should be on 3 meals per day at this point (at least, from what I've read). I feel so lost (and stupid)........

thanks for any input!!

Sounds normal to me! DS dropped a bottle at 8 months and soon after that he was down to 3 bottles. I would let them play for a bit when they wake up, then give them their bottles when you know they are hungry. At 9 months the bulk of their nutrition should still be from BM/formula. This is also a good time to start working up to 3 meals a day, the fewer the bottles, the easier that is!

ETA: You are right, solids now are in addition to and not in place of the bottle.

Around 9 months DS had a bottle at 7:30am, breakfast at 8/8:30, nap, bottle at 12, lunch at 12:30, nap, bottle at 4, dinner at 5, and bottle before bed. THe first bottle to go was the one after his 2nd nap (the 4pm one).

My boys are 9.5 months now and they don't take as many bottles. I asked the doctor b/c I feel like they don't drink enough formula but he said they are fine considering they are big.

My schedule goes like this:

7am- 5oz. bottle (some mixed into their oatmeal) 4tbs. of breakfast oatmeal each and 4oz jar of fruit split btw the two of them.

11am- 5 oz. bottle

1-1:30- lunch- veggies/meat/ fruit or pastina with fruit and veggies
4oz. of water and juice mixed

3-3:30- 4oz. bottle of formula

5:30 dinner- Usually chicken, veggies and a fruit.

6-6:30 5oz. bottle of formula then bed.

My boys for some reason have never finished more than 6oz. in a bottle. So I have never forced it.

It sounds normal to me too.

I don't remember specifically how much DD was taking at the time but I feel like she was on 4 bottles a day that were maybe 7 oz each and I think we were already feeding her solids 3 times a day. I know at 10 months she started GRABBING table food despite her near total lack of teeth at that age. Chat Icon

Within the next few months everything changes with their feedings - assuming no allergies, they'll get switched to milk, the amount they consume should decrease significantly, the number of foods you can offer increases tremendously. It's hard to keep track of it all.

I honestly think that by refusing their first bottle your kids are helping you along. At least from my own experience, weaning them from a bottle that they're attached to is a real PITA. Chat Icon

Thanks for your replies!!!!! It's a little nerve-wracking when you feel you don't know what you're doing, ya know??
