My VBAC after twins birth story!
All 3 kids are sleeping so I figured I would write my birth story before things got crazy. The birth of my twins was a bit traumatic for me so I knew I wanted to try for a VBAC if the circumstances were right. I had a semi emergency c section with my twins due to pre eclampsia. I had to be put under general anesthesia since I had take my Lovenox already that morning. Following their birth I was on magnesium for 24 hours. Between the general anesthesia and the Lovenox, I was completely out of it for 2 days. The babies were in the NICU so I didn’t see them. On day 2 I developed fevers and I wound up not being able to see them until they were 3 days old. It was horrible and I was determined to have a better experience this time. I went into wanting a VBAC with an open mind. My doctor wouldn’t induce me and wouldn’t let me go past my due date. I was ok with that, I felt like if it was meant to be then it was meant to be. I had a c-section scheduled for Wed the 20th (40 weeks). I went to my 39 week appointment on the prior Tuesday to find out that my cervix was closed. I started to really think it would be a csection. On St. Patrick’s day morning I felt “lazy” I just wanted to lay around. I went to the bathroom and noticed I lost more of my plug (which I lost some of 2 weeks before). I came out of the bathroom to tell my dh that I didn’t feel up to taking the kids to the St Patrick’s Day parade in Farming dale and all of a sudden my water broke. I wasn’t positive at first because it wasn’t a huge gush but then it just started to leak and leak. I knew it was the real thing but I wasn’t having contractions. I called the doctor and he sent me to the hospital. They said yes it was my water and we just had to wait to see if the contractions would started on their own. They did around 2pm but I was only 1 cm dialated. At 4 pm they started to get painful. They didn’t want to check my progress too often because my water had broken and they didn’t wanted to introduce bacteria. Around 8pm my OB came in and checked me and I was only 2 cm. I was so upset, I felt like such a baby for being in so much pain and only being 2 cms. He told me he would see me in the am and see if I progressed through the night. I had very painful contractions all night long. I was vomiting after almost everyone of them because of the pain (which is apparently a good thing, it helps your labor along). Around 6 am I told the nurse I couldn’t take it anymore and asked to be examined to see if I could get the epi. I was only 3 cm. They decided they would give it to me. So around 7-8 am I go the epi, which was AMAZING. A little after 9 I started to feel the contractions again and I felt a lot of pressure. My doctor checked me and I was fully dialated. It was time to push. The baby’s heart rate started to dip with the contractions so I got nervous I would be going to the OR. I pushed for 4 contractions and then my doctor said we have to have this baby next contraction because the heart rate was down again. I was terrified…so much pressure on me. But I did it!! 2 pushes later they told me to open my eyes and there was my sweet Colin James!! It was such an amazing experience!! I will forever be grateful to my ob. Recovery has been MUCH better this time.
