My windshield has a HUGE smile in it..... (updated with PIC)

It used to be a little star that happened back in July when we were traveling on Route 80 west and a truck kicked up a pebble Then today, DH took the kids out for a bit before and he came in and told me that when the heat came on, it cracked all the way ACROSS the windshield. In a big smile. I kid you not, it looks like this dude --->

DH has a body shop he will take it to so I can get a new windshield, but he said he can't take it until the end of the week. He tells me I can drive like this. Can I?? Will it crack more? Can I get a ticket? I feel like he's just telling me this

Uggg....that stinks!!! I think you can drive it as long as the crack in not in your line of sight (i.e. very high or very low) but I am not sure.

I would try not to drive that much till its fixed, you can get a ticket for a cracked windsheld, but if you did get pulled over I would just tell them that your getting it fixed the end of the week.

Do you have glass coverage? When my windshield cracked replacing it was covered 100%. Either way, we used safe-t-light, they come to you, fix it right there in your driveway (or for me at your job parking lot) and you drive it away fixed. We had to pay out of pocket once before for DHs car, and it really wasnt anymore expensive then bringing it somewhere.

No crack of 11 inches long or longer is allowed if any part of the crack is within the area cleared by the windshield wiper

Thanks for the replies! I knew it! The crack is about 2.5 to 3 feet long!

My DH is in the car business, he can get it fixed for me no problem , I'm justs not happy he's putting it on the back burner for now.

I had this happen to me. I found I had glass coverage in my car insurance, and they sent me to a local glass repair shop, and they had it done in about 2-3 hours.
