Myrtle beach vs. ocean city, Maryland?
Looking into both places for next summer. Want to rent for a week. Two families, 2 kids each, 2 kids will be 5 and other two will be 2. Which one do u recommend? Also , any tips on places to stay?

I do agree with that, but OC is 4-5 hours away and MB is 12 hours. Since you're going with kids, that's definitely something you need to consider.

Re: Myrtle beach vs. ocean city, Maryland?
We're ok with the drive. Planning on leaving at bedtime so kiddies will sleep. Is there lots to do in Myrtle Beach in walking distance, or would we have to drive everywhere? Any suggestions on places to stay? We plan on renting a condo or house for the week, any particular complexes u recommend?

Re: Myrtle beach vs. ocean city, Maryland?
I personally feel that myrtle beach has a ton more to do.
For rentals at MB, the companies you can look into are Dunes and Surfside. They have a majority of the properties and you can rent linens through them as well. They have catalogs where you can check out the condos/houses, with maps, to see where they are located, how many bedrooms, if they have a pool, etc.
There are some activities in walking distance but depending on where you stay, you will have to drive. Usually not far but for some activities it is worth it.
At myrtle beach, you have the beaches, the pier, many many mini-golf places, restaurants, arcades, various shows and my favorite Broadway At The Beach . There is a really nice aquarium the kids would love. There are always special events going on (sometimes fireworks, sometimes live music, sometimes people in costumes), lots of things to walk around and see, the stores and activities loop around water and you can feed the fish, the outside of the mini golf place there is themed, there is a movie theatre, candy store, a huge build a bear workshop with lots of animals and things you don't see at the normal build a bears around here, a magiquest (not sure what age that is good for- you can look it up with the link I gave you), playgrounds with items to climb on, and wonderworks a really nice hands on museum.

ITA its a really good family destination and I have been going there for years... however you do need a car to get around

Re: Myrtle beach vs. ocean city, Maryland?
Love MB. We were there at the beginning of July (North Myrtle Beach). We stayed at our Wyndham timeshare, which is right on the beach. There is so much to do there, or not do if you are looking to just chill out on the beach.
We did the 12 hour drive with my kids (both 5).
They had their DS, DVD player, ipods, and books to keep company. Plus we left around 2 am, and they slept for the first 5-6 hours before we stopped for breakfast.

DH and I just went to Myrtle Beach and we loved it! We actually stayed in a little town maybe 5 mins away called Murrells Inlet. They have a marsh walk and along side of it are all of these great restaurants that aren't filled with tourists. We will be going back!

LOVE Murrells Inlet - we stay in the southern part of MB and go there often for dinner. Very nice and laid back.

I think we went to Dead Dog 4 or 5 times because we loved their food so much!

i would suggest MB, lots more to do in OC. OC has more of a vibe like teenagers/college kids go there to drink and party it up. not a whole lot to do other than the boardwalk or mini golf...

Another vote for Myrtle Beach. So much more to do, though I prefer to stay just south of the strip (usually Surfside) since it's a little less congested.
