Mystery Stomach issue
So in September of 2014 we were moving into a new house. I started to get a stomach pain. The pain is always on the left side of my stomach. It centralizes right in front of and under my rib where your rib cage curves(on that corner) The pain can come and go but is always mainly on the left side. Left of my belly button and can run between the belly button and the epigastric area. Gas makes it way worse. Spicy food will have me in pain for days. It definitely seems episodic. I can go weeks without pain, or very little pain, then will have pain for 2 weeks. So I had a colonoscopy and an xray. Totally normal. It seems like galbladder symptoms except those are usually on the right. So I was diagnosed with IBS-because I have all those symptoms and have for many years, but I think I might also have an ulcer or something wrong with my stomach. Has anyone had this sort of pain? Any ideas? I have another gastro appt this week and am going to have an ultrasound, H pylori breath test(blood test was negative) and ask her to do a stool test for parasites as well...I have also had pancreatic enzyme tests which were normal

Re: Mystery Stomach issue
Are they going to check your stomach and small intestine too? The capsule endoscopy would be good for that ( you swallow a pill w a camera in it). The prep isn't as bad as for a colonoscopy. Or a small bowel series? The prep for that also isn't so bad either. Feel better!

Re: Mystery Stomach issue
I have worked in GI field for many years and have also gotten my own gall bladder out. I had the exact same symptoms that you have. Ask the GI about a Hida Scan. That will show how your gall bladder is functioning.
The breathe test for H Pylori is fast and accurate. If your doctor has the machine in office, you get the results immediately. If he sends the bag out to a lab, it will take a few days.
Def sounds like gall bladder to me. Who is your Doctor?

Re: Mystery Stomach issue
Sounds so similar to my gallstone attacks. Except for the side. (gallbladder pain is generally on the right) Did they do a sono of your gallbladder?

I was going to say the same thing. While I had pain on the right, I also had stomach pains because of the acid that was backed up.

Do you take probiotics? Those mess with my stomach and give me weird pains off and on. I don't take them anymore.
Get a jar of Manuka honey. If it's gastritis (which I had from taking advil), it might take care of it. It worked for me.

Re: Mystery Stomach issue
Just thought I'd update. For the past 2 weeks or so, I have had zero pain. Coincidentally, I have gone on a low gluten/low carb diet(less than 40G of carbs a day and no bread) Even though I was tested both for celiac and a gluten sensitivity and both were negative, I am starting to believe this is the cause of my pain. I did get an U/S but haven't gotten the results back.

How much gluten were you consuming before you were tested? I was told to go on a heavy gluten diet before getting tested. Made me so sick but I got a diagnosis. They went and confirmed with a biopsy and a genetic blood test. If you didn't already get the genetic test I would request it.

I've had the celiac blood test which was negative. Im not sure on the gluten. Not a huge amount, but some. Good point. I should look into it. It seems controllable, and luckily, I have had almost zero pain for the past month. I have overhauled my diet. I also saw a naturopath and did food sensitivity testing in which I tested high to yeast(both bakers and brewers) so I've been avoiding yeast as much as possible. Thanks!
ETA: Ultrasound was normal

I have a sensitivity to yeast as well--makes my psoriasis flare up! I was drinking tons of kombucha and eating fermented foods and finally figured out they did not agree with my body.

you should look into the DNA test for celiac. my husbands aunt, uncle and cousins are all celiac sufferers and all their blood work came back negative for it. it wasnt until they had actual DNa tests for it that it showed up.
