Re: Mystic, CT recommendations
I have stayed at the Hilton which was really nice -- restaurant, indoor pool, shuttles to the casinos. Olde Mystic Village and the aquarium are right across the street. DH & I have been to the Steak Loft (also across the street) and really enjoyed our meal there.
My mother stayed at the Best Western - it's right off the expressway and has a ground round in the lobby. She enjoyed her stay there.

Re: Mystic, CT recommendations
We stayed at The Inn at Mystic which was lovely but honestly were bored out of our minds there ...
We stayed in the East Wing:
Features deluxe accommodations similar to the Mansion. All have fireplaces, one queen-sized bed. Some are available with balconies, patios, and whirlpools. The east Wing rooms all have excellent views of the harbor and Long Island Sound and share a romantic setting as does the Mansion.

Re: Mystic, CT recommendations
We stayed at a little Days Inn. We were not looking to spend a lot. We visitied a cider mill, Old Mystick Village, the aquarium, and Mystic Pizza. At night we took a shuttle to Foxwoods. It was nice to get away but not a lot to do. On the way home we hit the outlets on 95 and then had an awesome dinner at the Melting Pot in Darien (in CT off 95, close to the NY border). We went for our first anniversary as well!

Re: Mystic, CT recommendations
Just got this email about the steam boat inn
Mystic, CT (May 23, 2007) – The Steamboat Inn today announced it was selected as an “Editors’ Choice” in the 2007 Special Travel Issue of Yankee Magazine. Yankee’s trusted endorsement will be recommended to nearly 2 million readers this spring, summer, and fall.
On sale now and available until October 31 where magazines are sold, Yankee’s Special Travel Issue uncovers the destinations and activities that make the region a hot spot for spring escapes, summer fun, and fall getaways for New Englanders and visitors alike. The Editors’ Choice recommendation singles out those establishments Yankee’s editors feel no visitor should miss.
“Readers often point out that the recipients of the Editors’ Choice endorsement represent the rustic, the refined, and everything in between, then ask what criteria we use to select them,” said Mel Allen, editor of Yankee. “Whether it’s a farm stand, a lobster shack with paper plates, or a restaurant that serves its meals on fine china, they all share a singular quality. These are places that travelers will remember, that locals love, and that promise visitors the opportunity to experience New England’s unique character firsthand.”
The Steamboat Inn - is Mystic, Connecticut’s only waterfront property! Steamboat is an 11-room, luxury Inn with the finest amenities and most beautiful views of the Mystic River. We are located in the heart of Historic Downtown Mystic, just steps from fabulous shopping and fine dining. You’ll find Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium and many other attractions just minutes away. If gaming is your pleasure we are located approximately 20 minutes from the world’s largest casinos, Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun Resort.
Each of our eleven rooms is uniquely decorated with antiques and offers a private bath with whirlpool tub. All eleven rooms are individually climate controlled. Other amenities include cable TV with DVD players, free local calling, complimentary signature toiletries, hair dryers, alarm clock radios, ironing boards (irons available from the front desk), and cozy seating areas, six of which have real wood burning fireplaces. Each room is also Internet accessible, either through dial-up or wireless DSL connection.
Our lovely George C. Moon common room is where you’ll enjoy an expanded continental breakfast each morning, including Steamboat Delectable muffins. Guests may help themselves to tea, hot chocolate, coffee and other beverages 24 hours a day. In the evenings sherry and cookies are served. View our rooms and more information at www.steamboatinnmystic.com or contact us at 860-536-8300. We offer seasonal rates, midweek and weekend, and we do require a two-night minimum on the weekends.
The Steamboat Inn will also be recommended on www.NewEngland.com, Yankee’s travel Web site and companion to the magazine. www.NewEngland.com offers visitors the tools they need to plan their travels and the opportunity to learn more about the region as a whole and the places celebrated in Yankee.

Re: Mystic, CT recommendations
The Steamboat Inn was fantastic. We stayed there last month. We had a nice time and found Mystic to be a relaxing place to get away for just a little while. BTW, we enjoyed eating at Margaritas and Rice Spice Noodles.

Re: Mystic, CT recommendations
There is also a Marriot there in Mystic...they have an Elizabeth Arden spa in the hotel...not sure if you and your DH would be up for the spa, but it is beautful! You can also go to Mohegan/Foxwoods since they are only about 20-30 mins away. You can go shopping at the seaport, go to the aquarium, and then if you are up for it, the Crystal Mall.....depends on how much you want to drive around....
