Name Drama - When is the absolute latest you can submit birth certificate/soc security forms?
DH and I cannot agree on names! I think we are close to a first name but we just started on the middle names and we cannot seem to agree.
I'm assuming of course you have to submit the birth certificate at the hospital before you leave.
Can we have just a first name and last name for the birth certificate and then fill out the social security form a little later?

I THINK you have up to a month for SS ..........but I'm not 100% sure.
Also, there's no law that says anyone MUST have a middle name. If you can't think of one, what's wrong w/ just
First Name, Last Name ??
HOW often do you really use your middle name anyway?

I don't have a middle name - I don't think a middle name is a big deal at all.

DH's family wants to use DH's grandfather's name as the middle name but I really don't like it at all. Then MIL came up with a name that I also dislike.
Of course since DH's side threw out some names, my parents are also giving suggestions now.
It is causing some major last minute name drama and it is stressing me out. I don't need this additional stress!!!!

Yea, names are tough! Maybe find a name similar to DH's grandfathers name or one that starts with the same letter? I like middle names that have meaning (like naming after someone you loved that has passed).

I believe you can wait, but I am not sure. Just be aware that you usually only have 30 days from the baby's birth to get them the ss# to put them on insurance. (If I can remember correctly)

Nope. Due to Homeland Security (seriously ) all paperwork having to do with the birth certificate and social secuirty number have to be completed and submitted IN the hospital.
So, I am guessing up to 2 days after birth for a vaginal birth and 4 days for a c-section (those are usually the hospital stays)

I didn't have a middle name until I got married and leagally made my maiden name my middle name. I kinda liked not having one.
