namesake question
If we have a DH wants to use his late best friend's name in some way. I think this is a really sweet idea, but I don't love his friend's name (the same as my ex-fiance and really really common). His middle name is even worse. But I do like his last name -- as a middle name.
Does it sound weird to use a last name as a middle name/namesake? Its very English sounding and rhymes with "barman".

Re: namesake question
I think middle names are open to almost anything, especially if you are honoring a loved one.
My dh's middle name is a last name--O'neil & it doesn't sound weird when you say it all together

Re: namesake question
In my friend's family, all the children have a family last name as a middle name. For example, my friend's middle name is Murphy (her maternal grandmother's maiden name), her sister's middle name is Buckley (her other paternal grandmother's maiden name).
When her sister gave birth to her daughter, her middle name is Alden (grandmother's middle name).
I think it's a lovely gesture.

Re: namesake question
I am in a similar situation. DH wants to use his late Mom's name. At first it was going to me the middle name, but now he wants it as the first name. It's a nice name, I am just not crazy about it.
I think you could use his last name as a middle name. Great idea!

Re: namesake question
We may do this as well with his grandmother's last name...

Re: namesake question
We were going to use my late best friend's name as a girl's name. It isn't our favorite name ever, but we loved the idea of honoring her.
