NANNY CAM Question...
Im not scared of or see anything wrong with daycare/babysitters (outside my home), as much as Id feel weary of someone being in my home..
Just a stupid question Maybe Im just naive..As far as nanny-cams, are there any instances where you DO tell the nanny that they are being taped? What's the law as far as video-taping someone? Im wondering if I would tell them theyre being taped to avoid the whole GOD FORBID trauma of finding something out by seeing the tape... this way, theyd be on their best behavior from the start... maybe even tell them you can peek in from work... am I just being naive about this? Is it really more effective for them to NOT know theyre being taped?

Re: NANNY CAM Question...
We went back and forth with this and decided not to tell our nanny. Now, we wish we did, so just like you said, they would be on their best behavior. Although when we were deciding this, my one friend told me that she could lways take your child into a room without cameras and do something there. So it wouldn't be 100% foul proof. But again, I wish we would hjave told our nanny.
Cameras are legal as long as they don't have sound, for some reason. But you cannot tape bathrooms - not that you would want to.....

Re: NANNY CAM Question...
My friend tells her babysitters and watches when she gets home. The cameras are in plain sight so I guess the sitter could take her into a room without a camera to misbehave but I don't think its likely.

Re: NANNY CAM Question...
I would absolutely tell them. When I was interviewing nannies I told them - there will be cameras and you won't know how many or where they are so if you have a problem with that you can leave now.
I would hope that the not knowing how many cameras part would prevent the taking the baby to another room part.
The way I see it is why wait to "catch" the nanny doing something wrong (which could be minor or traumatic) when you might be able to prevent that one incident from happening at all just by telling them that the cameras are present - so they are on their best behavior from day one.

Re: NANNY CAM Question...
I stated it during the interview process but I haven't actually pointed out where the cameras are although some are out in the open. I rather she know I can watch her, that way she is always on her best behavior as opposed to her not knowing and catching her doing something...because by that time, it would be too late. Plus, I think it is only fair that I disclose the cameras.

Re: NANNY CAM Question...
Just an idea...
If you can't afford the cameras, just tell the Nanny you HAVE them (even though you don't) and maybe they will be on their best behavior anyway!
