Re: Nanny holiday gift?
From an opposite point of view... I Nanny for a little girl... and I got This week off and Next... I still got paid for both weeks and then a bonus in a card... (1 week pay)
To say I was very surprised to get a bonus on top of the 2 weeks paid is an understatement.. .I was very very surprised, but when I said they didn't have to do that... they said... "That I shouldn't be garnished in my salary due to the fact that they took those weeks off, and they knew I relied on that money, so they didn't see that as being a bonus" And then they gave me a card with 1 weeks pay in it.
This is the first time I am a full time Nanny... but I heard from others also that its usually 1 weeks pay bonus...

Re: Nanny holiday gift?
We have a nanny Mon-Wed. We gave her Monday off and roughly one week's pay and an ornament as a gift.

Re: Nanny holiday gift?
I think it was very generous of you to pay her for next week. Not all people do that.
I babysit full time for a little girl for 3 years now. She is like part of our family. I have off next week, without pay, and I got a $20 gift card to old navy as my holiday gift!

Re: Nanny holiday gift?
I wanted to add in ---
I think it really depends on what kind of aggreement you have with your Nanny. If it was discussed that she would only get paid for the days that she works, then it would have been very generous of you to pay her for the week and I am sure she will be grateful for that extra money if she was not counting on getting paid for those days.
If next week is considered "vacation" time for her, then she'd have probably been expecting to be paid anyway, and a gift to go along would have been nice also.
I think it is really important to discuss terms with babysitters/nannies ahead of time so that there is no question when the time comes.
