Nap Schedule for 13 month old.. Opinions
Here's the story, my DD wakes up at 7 takes a morning nap from 10-12. Then an afternoon nap from 230-4. She STTN from 730-7. She seems happy and glad to go down for both naps, and at night. No tears involved. I'm a SAHM so the nap schedule is a dream for me. I get a few hours a day to get stuff done etc. I'm not pushing a change. I figured she'll let me know when she's ready to transition to one nap.
I was talking to a few friends over the last few weeks and it seems like everyone thinks I'm letting her sleep too much. Basically, several friends made me feel awful and that it's not normal. Am I missing something? Being too sensitive?
Honestly, their kids were never great nappers or night time sleepers so I'm not sure if their opinions are skewed or if its me.
Any advice is appreciated!

Re: Nap Schedule for 13 month old.. Opinions
You are fine! My 19 month old still takes 2 naps a day sometimes depending on what time he wakes up. It's rare, but it happens.
He transitioned to one nap around 15 months. He's up around 7am, naps from 11:30 - 1:30 (about) and then is in bed by 8pm.
I'm a huge believer in letting them transition when they are ready. My Ped wanted me to transition him right at 1 year and I said no, he needs that second nap, why should I deal with a cranky kid because you want me to transition to 1 nap? Your DD will transition when she's ready.

I wish my DS had that kind of nap schedule. You said their kids are not great nappers they are probably jealous. haha. I know I am and I don't have a great napper. As long as she goes down good for all the naps I think it is great. If she was fighting the second one then I think it would be time to drop it.

I would let it be. She will let you know when it's time to change. Sleep is good for their development! Enjoy it. DD changed to 1 nap and 12 months exactly. I didn't mind but I also knew it was time b/c she would fight it.

That is an awesome schedule so enjoy it!!!!
IMO, no such thing as too much sleep! If she wasn't tired, she wouldn't fall asleep!

Re: Nap Schedule for 13 month old.. Opinions
I get so annoyed when people make comments like that re: sleeping too much. My DS took 2 naps until he was almost 2 yo, and even now at 4 1/2 he sometimes will take an hour or two nap (we literally just stopped him napping). My 15 month old still naps twice a day...he sleeps from 8-6:30 ,takes bottle then goes back down until 7:30. Naps from 10:-12 then 3-4:30-5. I think as long as it's not interfering with their sleep at night, then who the h*ll cares?!?! I chalk it up to having good sleepers!

Re: Nap Schedule for 13 month old.. Opinions
I am writing this as my twin 13 month old boy and girl nap! I was hearing similar stories as you and pushed them a couple of days to one nap. On those days they went to bed a little earlier and for a once or twice a week thing it is ok depending on my schedule. They haven't wanted to sleep in the stroller as much. They love their cribs to sleep! And in the car they will sleep. I have been doing a little trial and error over the last couple of weeks and when I pushed the morning nap up thinking they could do one nap mid day and when they needed that afternoon nap it became too late and messed up the night. SO, I agree, I have always followed their cues and will do so with this as well. I am happy to hear the other posters. It seems I won't have to lose my 'cleaning in peace' time yet! And really, why push the kids when they are clearly needing the naps ~ I feel like I am torturing them when I try to keep them up.
ETA: Like pp said, sometimes they do sit and chat or play in their cribs, so they are in transition. The funny thing is, everyone talks about babies and schedules. Just when I get them on a schedule they transition to the next stage !!

I think your friends are jealous - b/c I am! That's a great schedule, and if she's sleeping, it's because she needs it. If it ain't broken, don't fix it!

My DS will be 14 months next week and hes pretty much sleeping the same as your DD. I had one friend who told me he shouldnt be napping that much and another one tell me that its fine.
My opinion is to just let them sleep when they are tired. I am not changing anything with DS sleep schedule.

I wouldn't worry if your doctor seems ok with it. If DD is sleeping through the night then it sounds like she still needs the two naps. I'm SUPER jealous over here, my DD didn't get on a solid nap schedule (no matter how we tried, minus CIO) until she was a year. Now she's 14 months and sleeps 8p-730a and naps 11a-1p. I'd LOVE her to take a second nap, oh the things I could accomplish . . .

Exactly! Don't make them second guess yourself. Your DD would not sleep that much if she didn't need it.

Re: Nap Schedule for 13 month old.. Opinions
My kids are great sleepers (my 13 month old twins are napping, now, too!), and I used to get so annoyed when people would make comments about the amount of sleep they got. I have read a lot about sleep, and know that babies and children need quality sleep on a schedule. It's that simple! Babies will let us know when they are ready to transition to one nap. With DS#1, he eventually just sat in his crib and played instead of falling asleep. After a little while of this (he was having a great time in there all by himself, resting), we adjusted his schedule and he napped once a day. It sounds like you are doing the right thing! Ignore them!
