Napping question... ever wake dc up?

So twice this week, ds has taken long afternoon naps.

Usually he takes 2 naps- hour and a half each.

Well this morning it was an hour and this afternoon... well... he's still going and it's been 2 1/2 hours.

Do you ever wake your dc or let them go?

(Ds goes to bed at 7pm and he's 8 1/2 months old).

No, I generally figure if he decides to take an extended nap, he needs it.

Lucky you!

Re: Napping question... ever wake dc up?

I have woken DS up.

I wont let him nap past 6pm (he has an 8:30-9pm bedtime)

So what I do if I want to wake him is I just open his bedroom door and make some noise, just usual stuff, putting dishes away, talking, etc. But I let him actually wake up from that.

Re: Napping question... ever wake dc up?

Since Ryan is such a crappy napper, the only time I ever wake him is if it is past 5pm or if we absolutely positively HAVE to go somewhere by a certain time and he is sleeping.

i only wake ds up if we absolutely have to be somewere (like dr app), or if he sleeps past 6. I actually found that the more he sleeps during the day, the better he sleeps at night

Only on a few occasions when the nap is close to 4 hours Chat Icon or if it's getting close to dinner. The few times I have done it, she has NOT been happy!!

Re: Napping question... ever wake dc up?

DS is 18 months and 90% of the time I wake him up from his naps. I have learned (unfortunately the hard way) that if DS sleeps more than an hour and 40 minutes or so it will have a negative effect on his sleep that night. Not sure why this is the case but, as long as I wake him up after about 1.5 hrs - he gets the best amount of sleep overall rather than waking up in the middle of the night for hours. He is a rare bird though when it comes to sleeping Chat Icon

Oh and, even though I wake him up he usually wakes up happy...

not unless we have to go somewhere. if he is sleeping that much i am just grateful for the downtime! Chat Icon

i don't extend his bedtime either - he napped until 6 pm the other day and still went to bed at 7:15pm.

He's gotten better with the naps, but then when we went to Florida... it threw a wrench in his nighttime sleeping. So we're still working on that. Got it back to waking only once a night and here or there... STTN. Time will tell but i'm Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Me too. Sleep begets sleep, or so they say Chat Icon DD NEVER naps over 2 hours (usually closer to 1.5 hours), but it does work out that when we have somewhere to be, she will typically nap longer (little stinker!) Chat Icon

I go by the rule never wake a sleeping baby. Chat Icon

If he's napping if he needs something he'll wake up Chat Icon

His naps dont interupt any night time sleeping. DS is a great sleeper Chat Icon

Re: Napping question... ever wake dc up?

Nope, I never wake Nicholas up. I could maybe see it if he was going for hours on end, but he only sleeps usually 1 to 2 hours for his naps throughout the day.

LOL I have the same experience!!

Ali, step away from the sleeping child!! I would let him sleep unless it's past 5pm. Perhaps aunt Barbara is slipping him a little something to make him sleep better Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I will only wake dd up if the nap goes longer than 4:00. I never let her sleep later than 4 because I know she'll never go to bed by 8 then.
