Narrowing of L5-S1 disc space and Levoscoliosis
I just got the results of my Xray and now I have to go for an MRI.
Is anyone familiar with 1) Levoscoliosis or 2) Narrowing of L5-S1 disc space?
Any information would be great!

Re: Narrowing of L5-S1 disc space and Levoscoliosis
I had the diagnosis of 'slight narrowing of L5-S1' disk space, which is a nice way of saying I had a herniated disk in my back.
It was causing-and still is, sciatica going down my leg.
If you need any info, or have particular questions, FM me.

was this because of an accident or something that happened over time?
I'm trying to figure out if the car accident caused this or not.

Mine was caused by pregnancy. Or at least that is what I believe.
You can have stress on your back at any time, so a car crash could have caused it, as well as normal wear and tear.

Re: Narrowing of L5-S1 disc space and Levoscoliosis
Narrowing of the disc space can be for a variety of reasons. You could have a herniated disc but you might not. I have disc space narrowing but only bulging discs. I do have pain because, even without herniation, I have nerve root impingement. Honestly, X-rays tell very little when it comes to this type of injury. Your MRI will give you and your doctor much more insight.

Same here. It was when I was 25, so a little more than 10 years ago It wasn't caused by anything really, in my case, it is genetic (my mother, 2 aunts, 2 sisters and brother all have the same issue). It hurt me from the time I was 17. My leg atrophied from not using it because of the sciatica. At that age, one doctor recommened surgery, another recommended conservative therapy (best rest for 2 weeks with oral steroids). Of course I chose the conservative therapy and it really helped. It's been 10 years, and while I can't say I've been completely pain free, I am feeling good and the only issues I had were when I was PG.

Re: Narrowing of L5-S1 disc space and Levoscoliosis
Wow, this is so strange to see this post. I was just diagnosed with this two days ago!
I have pain that goes down the back of my leg and starts deep inside my left buttcheek (sorry, TMI). Also pain in my lower back. Sometimes I can't even sleep well because of it. I had a lumbar spine MRI and it shows this exact thing at the same disc L5-S1 and it's pressing on the S1 nerve, which is causing the pain.
My neurologist put me on oral steroids for 2 weeks (just like the PP) and I'll go back in 2 weeks to see what's the next step.
I fell down a flight of marble steps 4 years ago and injured my tailbone VERY badly, went to therapy for over a year just so I could sit for more than 15 minutes at a time without pain. THe doc said it could have been caused by that fall, or by lifting something heavy, or other things. I've had the pain for years though and it's gotten to the point where I can't stand it sometimes, so I'm happy they finally sent me for the MRI and have figured out the problem. I'm HOPING they can help me feel better without even considering surgery.
Didn't realize this would be a problem when I get pregnant - that suckkkkksass.
