Nasal aspirator
I bought the battery operated one, which works great, i find i do get alot gooey boogies. But.. My dd is only going to be 3months old on sat, and doesnt understand what im doing but knows she hates it. She screams and pushes my hand away from nose and squirms away. Shes got so much phlegm that shes chokes on it.
My question is, how do you use aspirator with baby? Im scared ill hurt her hold her if shes squirming.. she is very strong.

Re: Nasal aspirator
I have the regular one and I started making beep-beep noises and airplane noises (yes, like a fool) and it worked! She still gets frustrated a little bit but not nearly as much!

Ill try it, the battery one has music, which she just looks at me like HUH?? and i play with it with her, i suck her little cheeks and she smiles, but once it goes in nose that it... Im afraid of slipping into her eye.. Ill try the sounds.

Re: Nasal aspirator
Well my boys are a lot older but I do it the not so kind way because otherwise it would not get done. If I am on my own and they are standing, then I come up from behind and bend down and hold their chin in my hand and go for it. Otherwise I have to sit (not actually sit) but have my knees holding their arms down and then do it.
If I have DH with me he holds the arms and i hold the face and do it.
So amazing how much they hate something that makes them feel so much better after it is all done.

Re: Nasal aspirator
I try to sing and make funny noises, but when it comes down to it, sometimes (not all the time), I have to put my arm against the side of his head to keep him from turning it back and forth while he's lying on the changing table and hold his hands at the same time so he can't push me away. Then I try to get as many boogies as I can as quickly as possible!

Re: Nasal aspirator
DD will allow me to do it once in each nostril. If I have to do more, I have to hold her hands down b/c she pushes me away.

Re: Nasal aspirator
DS has a cold and I can hear the mucous in his nose by the way he breathes. Can anyone possibly post what this Nasal aspirator looks like and where you bought it from?

Re: Nasal aspirator
The hurses in the NICU told me that the one they give you in the hospital(the blue manual one) is the best one, and is the easiest to use.
We use it with DS and we always get everything out of his nose with 2-3 squeezes.

Re: Nasal aspirator
There's a battery operated one? I had no idea. You just have to wrestle and hold IMO. In the end it's worth it for their comfort.

Re: Nasal aspirator
I hold my dd in a wrestling move until I am able to suck enough of the stuff out
ALL babies hate this, it is just something that has to be done...I try to do it as quick as possible

We have both of those and DD won't let me within 4 feet of her with either one - she screams and violently shakes her head back and forth. I have no idea how to get near her to do it - my mom even tried to gently hold her down and that was even worse.
