Nausea & bad taste in my mouth

I hate to complain b/c after struggling with infertility and recurrent loss for 2 yrs, I am finally pregnant but this nausea is kicking my butt! I also have a terrible taste in my mouth all the time no matter what I eat. I am not throwing up, thank goodness, but I am nauseous all day, except when I'm lying down. Any advice? What worked for you?

Lots of ginger ale and carbs. I also always had mints and gum to deal with that awful taste and super sensitive sense of smell. Yay for commuting on the subway! Chat Icon

Re: Nausea & bad taste in my mouth

I had those exact symptoms in the beginning. It's a horrible combination because carbs help the nausea but make the dysgeusia worse. Proteins help the dysgeusia, but who wants to eat high protein when you're nauseous.
It peaked around 10-11 weeks and subsided quite a bit around 13-14 weeks. The nausea is gone (has been since 13ish weeks), but the dysgeusia is still around. Not as intense, but still 4-5 times a week. No ice cream, cookies, or chips- they always make my mouth taste terrible. Proteins help. I eat a lot of nuts and eggs. When I want fruit, I have been yielding to apples and peanut butter which has been fine.
also balanced meals are helpful as well. Again... harder to accomplish when everything makes you sick.
Hang in there! Chat Icon

Cinnamon mints, or gum, or hard jolly rancher candies. I was sucking or chewing one of those three things for weeks and weeks.

Try sour patch kids.

Nausea & bad taste in my mouth

Bagels and ginger ale were all that helped me. Feel better!
