Need 5th grade teaches helpl please...
My sister needs to go to my nieces school to do a read aloud tomorrow. what do you read to 5th graders that can be read I guess within one period?
Any suggestions??

Ewww, picture books could work since it is the time frame. I used The Pain and the Great One by Judy Blume to do a compare and contrast, point of view lesson.
Owen and Mzee is nice. It's about the baby hippo and tortoise from the tsunami.

I think you can read a lot of great books-there are so many excellent pieces of literatyre... are there any topics your niece is learning about in school-science, S.S. or Math? That might be a place tp start-
Math Curse and Science Verse are great books... to tie into the curriculum.
I always love Patricia Polacco books. She has a great selection to choose from and the kids are always mesmerized by her great pictures. Betty Doll is one of my favorites..
Fly away home-about how a young boy and his dad are homeless and eventually find hope-I know it's sad, but maybe the kids can do a writing piece on something they are thankful for.
Snowmen at Night-not sure of the author...
Jerry Seinfeld also wrote a book that is pretty popular around the holidays-
