Need advice - speech therapist related
So, Jack basically freaked out and cried his last speech session (Thurs) she had to leave after 20 mins.
Today he is flipping out again - they haven't done a thing and she is here 8 mins.
Do I talk to my coordinator about trying out a new therapist?

This has been ongoing hasn't it? What does the therapist think? Do you see anything in her demeanor/behavior that might be setting him off?
At this point you might want to call the coordinator to see if maybe another therapist might be a better fit.

Are you in the room with him, or in a different room....

Re: Need advice - speech therapist related
It is so flippin' frustrating that I could cry.
I was in the room with them the first couple of months - we found he did better when I'm not in the room.
Now - he is basically in hysterics the entire time she is here (at least the last two times)
I can't take it. She doesn't calm him down, so I go in there and literally take charge of the session and get him focused again. It took 40 mins for him to do one stinking puzzle today. I feel at this point I am wasting everyone's time.
Then - when I have my doubts and am ready to call he has a few great sessions with her so I never do anything.

It depends on whether or not this is a regularly occurring event. How often does he cry like this with her? How long has he had this therapist? Does he usually respond well to her? Is he learning from her? How long has she been his therapist?
If you feel like he is not learning form her and you think he will respond better to another therapist then I talk to your coordinator.

They have been meeting twice a week since March. Some days are better than others but I would never say that we've had one all out fabulous day with her KWIM?!

The thing is that I don't know how he will respond to someone else. I do know that he is NEVER EVER like this. Never. Not with anyone else he has contact with. I don't know if it's because she pushes him and he gets annoyed, if they just don't click and another therapist will work better with him. I just don't know.
He has been learning things - but I also don't know if I have her to credit for that - or the fact that he's just getting older and picking things up more now.

Maybe as he's getting older he needs you in the room with him? I know that things that used to work like a charm with Lily no longer do the older she gets. I would call and see what they suggest. He can't be the first child to go through this!
