Need Advice!!
Ok, long story short. I am basically in the process of making a decision between two schools.
School # 1- The commute is not so great. I would have 4 sections of one grade and one section of 7th grade and it is a traveling position (no classroom). Also, a brand new principal will begin in September. I have only met the Assistant Principal. The area is pretty good.
School # 2 The commute is better than number 1. I woulf have 2 sections of 6th grade, one section of 7th grade and two sections of 8th grade. (I know that can be rough). I will have my own classroom. I did not meet the principal but I met with two AP's. The area is really nice.
What are your opinions? I may have to make a decision by tomorrow!
TIA

Re: Need Advice!!
School #2 seems like the clear better choice to me... is it the three preps that are making you waver? I've had a minimum of three every year. It's definitely manageable...
Good luck with whatever you decide!

Re: Need Advice!!
I think this really has to be based on what school you had the better feeling at. Choice #2 does seem like the better choice based on the information you gave.

Re: Need Advice!!
From your description, I would definitely go with #2. Having your own classroom can make a bigh difference and you may enjoy the change in grades and curriculum. Good luck in your decision!

Re: Need Advice!!
Yes they are both NYC schools.
I am looking forward to having a classroom because last year (my first year) I was traveling.
I am just nervous about three different grades and keeping up with the grade level meetings and all the extra lesson planning!
The only other problem is that I have not been inside School #1 yet. They are closed for the summer and I met the AP at the school he was working at for the summer.
I appreciate all of your comments.

Re: Need Advice!!
3 preps isn't so bad and it will probably only be the first year or so, once you start gaining seniority you won't have to deal with 3, uness you choose to. And once you have taught these grades once, you've done most of the work for each subsequent year.
so I would go with 2

Re: Need Advice!!
I would go with #2. My aunt is a teacher in a jhs in brooklyn and for 2 yrs she didn't have her own classroom ( I forget the reason) But she said it made everything more stressful and frustrating. Good luck!

Re: Need Advice!!
#2. Havning your own classroom, a place to put your stuff, and a shorter commute. No question about it. Good luck and congrats on getting the job.

Re: Need Advice!!
I agree with the previous posters. I would also pick #2. A better commute and your own classroom would seal the deal for me. Good luck!
