Need advice... Bethpage
Hi, I am new to this site and I am hoping someone can give me some advice since I am completely stressed. My husband and I are considering moving to Bethpage with our 4 year old twins. I really don't know much about the area except that the schools are supposed to be great (?) ...I am trying to figure out the school districts policy on separating multiples. I think I would like my girls to stay together in school. Any advice on the area or that specific topic would be great, we're moving from a "small town environment and I'm very nervous. Thanks so much.

Re: Need advice... Bethpage
Bethpage is a really nice area. I grew up one town over in North Massapequa and I was in Plainedge SD. Depending on where you are in Bethpage you could be too. We had a bunch of Bethpage kids in Plainedge.
If you move to Bethpage you'll be close to lots of shopping, easy access to parkways, and nice parks in the area. It's a safe, nice place to own a home. I think you will like it!!
The best way to know the district's policy on separating multiples is to just call the district office and ask. I'm sure they could tell you. I am pretty sure the policy varies for different districts. The schools I taught in generally liked to separate twins but in Bethpage/Plainedge that might not be the case.
Good luck with you move!

Re: Need advice... Bethpage
Just chiming in to add that certain parts of Bethpage are zoned for Island Trees schools, as well as Plainedge. So you could be in Bethpage town and be in a different school district other than Bethpage SD 21. So you may want to check with several of the local districts (unless you already have a specific house in mind and know the district).
Also, if it's Bethpage SD you are interested, certain parts of Plainview are zoned for Bethpage schools, and even a small part of Hicksville is as well.
As others have said, you would need to call the district to ask. I think most districts have a policy of separating siblings. While I don't have twins, so I can't comment first-hand, many of my friends have twins, and I think they have all been happy with having them in different classes and have seen the benefits of doing that. I don't know what your reasons are, but if you have specific concerns, maybe you can speak to the district about them (but also other twin parents who have had their children in same/different classes to get the full pictures on the pros/cons).
Also, even if they are in different classes, they would probably still see each other quite a bit and interact at school. My son is in a big elementary school -- he's in kindergarten and while there are 5 classes, the kindergartners all have lunch and recess together, and they also combine classes for certain specials (gym, music, etc.). So he sees a lot of our friends and neighbors at school during the day, even if they are not in the same class, and he's met a lot of children outside of his own class.
Good luck with your search! If you need help with the real estate end of things, please feel free to contact me!

Thank you so much for your responses. I've been driving myself crazy, I don't really want to move but our taxes have gone up to a ridiculous amount. We just started to look and Bethpage was my main focus. The input is definitely appreciated. Thanks so much!

If it's in Island Trees schools, my son has twins in his class that are together, so I don't think they have a separation policy.

Need advice... Bethpage
My son goes to Kramer Lane Elementary..one of the three elementaries in Bethpage SD 21. They do separate twins in his school. I am not sure about the other elementary schools. There are 6 sets of twins in his grade and I have not heard any complaints about it. It is a great school and area to live in. PM me if you have any questions.

My co-worker has twins in the Plainview Old Bethpage schools and they will allow them in the same class but highly discourage it.

ny law protects multiples now - you can have discussion for twin placement now. manatory separation is not proper anymore- it may take talking to a district though

I'm in Bethpage and my kids go to Kramer Lane - its one of the few schools on LI that have received the Blue Ribbon Award by the state. We love it here!
