Need advice for my hardwood floor baby
We had wall to wall carpeting with my older 2 kids but now we have hardwood and area rugs. Matthew is starting to pull up on everything and I am fearing for his life, or at least his poor head. Things slide out from under him, he loses footing... it's just a recipe for disaster.
What do you do when they are still learning to pull up and stand and stabilize themselves? He wears socks with treads already but I need some more ideas. TIA

Re: Need advice for my hardwood floor baby
I know this is my answer to everything but, Robeez
We have hard wood floors and tile and when DS was that age sometimes the socks alone didn't cut it. (and still now especially since alot of socks for 4t/5t don't have tread , ) He was able to keep his footing with the Robeez.

Re: Need advice for my hardwood floor baby
I actually kept my daughter barefoot -- good for development and reduced the number of slips. Hardwood isn't really that much worse to bang your head on than most carpets. Just make sure there are no sharp corners for him to hit on the way down. If he's not cruising yet you can also drop a pillow down behind him.

My son lived in his Robeez at that age. I have mostly pergo/hw too.

Liz - maybe this will help. I just saw it while flipping through my one step ahead catalog

Teri, after seeing this in your other post, I was going to post it here too!
We have HW floors too and I just kept them in socks with treads (loved the Old Navy ones) or in Robeez. Lauren isn't crawling yet nor is she picking herself up! I am not encouraging her either

Bare feet and watchful eye worked well enough for me.

looks funny but...
...dont laugh, I'm actually considering this! If I was able to watch just him I would be fine for the most part but with my other 2 tornadoes, I'm already outnumbered and going in circles most of the time. I feel so bad if he takes a fall! With the wood or my kitchen, I have ceramic tile. Ouch! Hopefully it will be a short lived phase, you know babies - when they start working on learning something, they master it at such an amazing speed. Thanks everyone.

Re: Need advice for my hardwood floor baby
I am dealing with the same issue right now and he falls, crys for 2 minutes and then it is over. Luckly it hasent left any bruises or marks. It isn't even so much that he slips it's more that he looses balance sometimes. I think I am gonna get the robeez though.

Re: Need advice for my hardwood floor baby
Barefoot is best. Sometimes their feet get cold but it really doesn't bother them - they'd rather be moble right now. My DH learned to fall better and gets down slow. Sometimes I think it's because he has taken a couple of good falls forward.... They learn quick.

Re: Need advice for my hardwood floor baby
Liz - in all seriousness I'd be more concerned with the tile floors in the kitchen - we have the same now after our remodel so when baby #2 arrives we'll maybe have to keep a gate at the kitchen entrance for a bit. A fall on hard tile would HURT
Luckily Emily was old enough for us not to worry when we had the new floors installed.

I pretty much do the same.
