Need advice on asking for pay raise
Every year January we get our raises, actually another guy and me, all the other employees are fairly new. We are almost in the 3rd week of February and I still haven't gotten it, I am sooo embarassed to ask, and I feel If I do it will be less than it would be if I didn't ask (boss is spiteful).
It is just that is it well needed and about 6 weeks late - I would've had that extra pay for 6 weeks, that is a lot.
thanks all.

Re: Need advice on asking for pay raise
How do you usually communicate w/ your boss? On paper, or face to face?

Re: Need advice on asking for pay raise
My company no longer gives raises automatically. Raises are now soley based on merit & performance.
If it were me, this is what I would do:
I would start out by making a list (for yourself) of my contributions to my company, my performance, my willingness to take on additional work, work late, etc. Basically what ROI (Return on Investment) is the company getting from me.
I went to salary.com and did a job comparison & printout out what the average salary was for the job that I do (in my case I was doing 2 jobs, so I printed them both).
My boss & I tend to work better via email, so I sent him an email saying that I know he doesn't normally do reviews (since he owns the company), but I would like to be considered for an increase based on x, y & z. I included the salary background (with the links to the sites), etc.
In the end, it certainly paid off for me (not to mention he was scared to see that I had gone to job search websites for salary info). You know your boss better than we do, so you can gauge his reaction and how to best approach him. I hope you get everything you hoped for.

Re: Need advice on asking for pay raise
We always speak face to face, it is a small co. , he is the owner.
I am the only office worker. I thought maybe it was b/c I told him I was pregnant, but the other field worker didn't get his either and we always get them same time.
I am embarassed to ask, I will check the website posted.
thanks !
