Need advise r/t a Baby Shower
I need some help girls. My sister is due in June and we both live in Texas. All of our family is in NY, so we are going there in March. I want to give her a little shower back in NY with all the family, but no way could she get all the big gifts. It would cost a fortune shipping down to Texas afterwards. So I was thinking of doing a "Gift Card" Baby Shower. Does it sound tacky to basically tell people they need to give her a "gift card", rather than the actual gift? She can then take all the cards and apply them towards the things you would normally get a shower when she gets back to Texas. So if I do this, I need some help with wording it on the invite. Anyone have some good ideas on how to tell people on the invitation that it is a "Gift Card Shower" so they understand that is what they should bring as a gift? Thanks for your help, I look forward to seeing your suggestions.

Re: Need advise r/t a Baby Shower
I'm real sensitive when it comes to stuff like this being written out on the invitation. I think that people will have the common sense to call up and ask for suggestions at which point any of you can recommend a gift card. I know it seems so much easier putting it down on the invite, but for some reason receiving such an invite would rub me the wrong way.
Also, if she is registered at a place like BRU or BBB (is there a BBB in Texas?) they can opt to pay the shipping and have it sent to your sister's home directly?
Perhaps you could use some fun wording so that people can use their common sense to know that they should not bring big old gifts to the shower?

You could say that it would be appreciated if they sent their gifts and wrapped a picture. If worse comes to worse, your sister can always return the gifts for store credit and repurchase them when she gets home.
But to answer your question, for me, I wouldn't mind if you wrote that in lieu of a gift, gift cards would be appreciated due to where she lives.

Re: Need advise r/t a Baby Shower
FYI, call BRU and Buy Buy Baby. My sister is getting married in April. Her shower is here in NY she lives in NC so before she leaves we are taking all her gifts and bringing them to Bed Bath and Beyond in NY where they will ship them for free to the Charlotte BBB. I assume some of the baby stores may do this too. Anyway I am so over the "tacky" thing. Why doesn't everyone have their own value system and stop judging other people-we are dealing with this right now as my Best friend is PG with twins and is having the shower at her house to keep costs down and make it convenient since she is pretty big

You could put a note in the invite saying that due to her location if gifts are ordered online please have them shipped to her home address. People will understand.

Re: Need advise r/t a Baby Shower
I agree, I don't think you should put anything about gift cards in the invite. I do think, you should put something about shipping the gifts and bringing a picture. Maybe you could incorporate that into the shower and make some sort of collage of the pictures as she opens them??? Just an idea...
