Need an extra special holiday gift for my boss - Sipping Rum?
My boss went out on a limb and did something for me that deserves a extra special gift from me this year. Usually, the gift I give is nominal, I've done a bottle of wine, a coffee mug warmer and coffee, etc. I asked his wife what he has been drinking at home and she said Grey Goose and also a dark sipping rum from Venezuela. The rum costs about $30. I was thinking about upping the anti and getting a more expensive rum but I dont know anything about them. I guess I could get more expensive Vodka as well but need help with that also. If I didnt go the liquor avenue he is also a huge history buff and is an avid hiker. He is not really a "gaget" kinda guy. More down to earth hamptons lawyer. Suggestions greatly appreciated

My father in law is a big whiskey drinker, we ordered a great sampler from masterofmalt.com. we were able to get expensive whiskey samples for xheap. I checked, they have rum and vodka too. It comes from the UK though, so allow enough time for delivery.

Maybe try going to a liquor store with the name of the rum he likes and they can suggest something similar but more expensive
Or you can get him his rum and nice double old fashion glasses to go with it

I know nothing about good alcohol (I still enjoy wine coolers occasionally )  BUT I do know that some shops will engrave the bottle for you. Maybe you can get the rum or vodka and have the bottle engraved with "happy holidays" or whatever?

I would think you should maybe look into Appleton Estate 12 year old Rum. It's really delicious and has an excellent finish on it. I think its about $50-$60/bottle. If you want to really splurge, you should look for El Dorado 21 year old Rum. Its amazing but usually very hard to find. I think its about $75/bottle.

I have a few bottles of Mount Gay Extra Old which retails for $50. It's imported from Barbados. Don't know about the taste since I'm not a drinker but if you want it, its yours for free.
