Need breeder or adoption references
We are finally taking the plunge and seriously looking into getting a dog for our family. My son (5) has a slight dog allergy, so we have been looking into yorkies, westies, malteses, bichons, and havaneses. Can anyone recommend a local breeder or rescue that would have these breeds? We would prefer a puppy or a younger dog. Thanks all!

I definitely would consider a poodle, if it will be on the small side. Thanks!

Mini-Poodles are on the smaller side. There are also toy-poodles too. My breeder only breeds Minis and Standards. My Shamrock is a Mini.

poodles are hard to train, from my experience! then again my mom got one from a friend of a friend who ended up being a mass breeder / dog hoarder and all over the news a few years ago... OMG!

I'm sorry to disagree but poodles are considered to be one of the easiest dogs to train. I was able to train my dog very quickly all the basic commands. The breeder I recommended isn't a backyard/mass breeder. She breeders for temperament as well as beauty. Many of her dogs have gone on to be show dogs. My dogs mom and grandmothers were all champion show dogs. I'm so very sorry that your mother had a horrible experience with her poodle but believe me they are not all bad.

I agree, our dog is only a half poodle but he is just the best dog in the world and he also trained very easily and also knows the basic commands. Our vet had mentioned that the the poodle in him most likely why he is so obidient.

True. Poodles are really smart and quite easy to train. Like with any dog really, it's all about repetition.

Re: Need breeder or adoption references
I agree with poodles being very smart. I think any dog can be hard to train--of course some breeds are harder--more stubborn, etc. But, I think being consistant is very important and finding the best method that works for your dog.
