Need color opinions please for my kitchen!
So we're finally getting around to updating our kitchen. I thought I would want to rip our original 1940s cabinets out, but I have to be honest, they're solid oak and in such great shape and HUGE, so I want to just paint them instead. Here's where my questions come in. Attached is a picture of the tile we bought. How would cream colored cabinets look with a buttery yellow wall??? Or, do you have any other suggestions for cabinet and wall color? I'm feeling at a loss on this one. TIA!

How about a color in the orange family (really big for kitchens right now) - terra cotta, or maybe BM Casabella if you want something a little lighter and muted. I think it would bring out the orange tones in your tile.

ITA! I was just about to suggest this. IMO, a buttercream yellow wouldnt go. But picking up one of the orange/reddish tones with off-white cabinets could be gorgeous.

Re: Need color opinions please for my kitchen!
trying to get a cream colored paint and a butter yeollow paint to have the same undertones will be really hard. creams can have grey, pink or yellow base color. I think your pretty floor deserves more. I love the idea of a terra cotta color, I have BM audobon russet in my kitchen & love it. my ceiling is BM putnam ivory & they work great together. Roxbury caramel is pretty too. There are lighter almost peachy colors that would be great with cream cabinets too. Butte rock is another color that would look good with the tile but would be tricky with cream cabinets. If you are totally opposed to the orange/terra cotta colors, The other direction that would be good good is a soft grey with blue under tones. the orange/red in the floor would play nicely with it.

I'd go with white cabinets and for the walls you have a lot of options.
White cabinets Light buttery yellow walls Light color backsplash
I like this combo too... white cabinets coppery walls backsplash is a mix (tans/burgundy/white)

I would do white cabinets bc they are so versatile. If you want to repaint the wall color in a couple years - you can, and the cabinets will still match.
I really like the floor and think a sage green would look nice. One of my favorites is BM Dry Sage.

Ooooh I like the sage green suggestion with those tiles! My parents did something similar in their bathroom, just a darker version on both the tiles and walls, but the same concept with a reddish floor and green wall.
Let me know how the cabinet painting goes!! I am thinking about doing mine...

I like white cabinets. Just gorgeous and would work with a lot of colors for the walls & tile you picked.

I think your original thought would look excellent!
I have similar tile in my kitchen with creme colored cabinets, terra cotta paint and golden mustard yellow accents.
You could definitely switch it up and do buttery yellow wall with rust/terra cotta accents.

Re: Need color opinions please for my kitchen!
my kitchen cabinets pick up the sage color in my tiles (very similar to yours)
lemme see if we have pics
we haven't done anything to the kitchen except decorate. it was redone by the previous previous owners in 2002, I believe.
we are kicking ideas around now about the cabinets...but I really like how they play up the floor tiles, which I don't want to replace.
I do think the tiles are a bit too "rustic" for white cabinets though...jmo.
cabinets
fooey...I don't have pics of the floor...but they are just like yours with sage green thrown in...lovely.

Re: Need color opinions please for my kitchen!
I see that floor and instantly think of Tuscan colors.. warm rust/orange/golden brown colors.
A light beige color for cabinets and a warm orange/rust color for the walls would look really nice.

Re: Need color opinions please for my kitchen!
I would do white cabinets and BM chestertown buff for the walls. It is in the yellow/gold family but has more of brown undertone and i think it will go really nicely with your floor.
I don't think white will look to stark at all.

My walls are not Chestertown buff but are similar and my floor is a similar color and I love the combo. IMO the buttery yellow is too off for that floor I think and something in the orange family is too much orange. I like the green idea a bit but it has to be the right undertones in the green. I think the goldish beige is the best bet (CB color)
I like the cream idea - with some distressing on the cabs.

Here is a picture of our first kitchen with the Chestertown Buff. The cabinets weren't white but it still worked.
For countertops, I would go in the brown family weather it be dark or light.

I do think white would be too stark but that's only because I have almost the identical floor and creme cabinets.
I have light countertops as well.
This is our paint color: Sherwin Spiced Cider
I think it would be too dark in your kitchen though...
