Need formula help....

Hello Ladies...

I am now officially a mommy.... My baby boy was born Sunday Feb. 4th.... I need some help before I run to the babies dr....

In the hospital they gave him those RTF Enfamil bottles and when we came home I started him on Enfamil power using his Dr. Brown bottles... the bottles are great... He has been using the power for 3 days as of today and I have noticed that he has a change in poop. He was pooping after and before and in between feedings on the RTF (loose poop) and now since the change it started yesterday, He pooped 2X in the morning (loose poop) and he only pooped once since then in the middle of the night last night and it was a more of a creamy poop. And this morning nothing... What should I do? Should I call the Dr., or should I try going back to RTF?

Help... I dont want to be one of those moms that call the dr. for every little thing......

thanks

As long as his poop isn't mucousy, I wouldn't worry. The powder and the RTF will most likely give them a different type of poop. Chat Icon

Re: Need formula help....

I did the same thing. I switch from RTF to powder. My DD's poop changed also. One day it looked more formed than normal and she was only having one poop a day. She actually seems more gassy on powdered formula. This morning she did nothing but cry so i went and bought the RTF again to see if it helps.

That powdered stuff gets so bubblly when you shake it. It seems as if it cant be good for them. Who knows.

Their poop will change so much, at least thats what happened with us. My son was horrible on the RTF..it constipated him, and the powder is much better for us.

Don't worry unless there are obvious problems like blood or the poop is black, or any shade other than brown, green, or yellow.

Also frequency can change a lot..we have days where he didn't go for 2, then the next day he went 3 times. Very normal!

Re: Need formula help....

Thanks guys... you are making me calm down a little.... This is my first child and I had a pretty rough delivery and I am just a bit over protective of him. I even check up on him all the time.. I stare at him sleeping just to see him move. I am going to drive my self crazy. And my dr. wanted me to rest for 4 weeks due to my c-section.. Not a chance....

All of you are very helpful... Thanks for everything....

All normal, dd is 14 months and I still check to make sure she is breathing in the middle of the night.

Change in poop is normal, it may have nothing to do with the formula even, his little digestive system is changing every day.

awww.. you are going to be fine- the first couple of weeks are awful with worries. My third night home I called the night nurse for my ped since I thought my DD has diarreaha since her poop was so loose. Of course it should be that way.

I so relate to you- I was there five weeks ago.Chat Icon
