Need help finding a home for dog - long
I am posting anonymously because I don't want any family members to wind up Googling me and getting their feelings hurt, but I have no idea where to turn.
My brother and girlfriend went out and bought themselves a puggle. Totally on a whim. From a pet store. To say DH and I were in shock is the understatement of the year especially because of everything we went through researching a breeder for our dog, and yet still, I question the breeder sometimes. I've found this board to be very helpful. I hope that I've done my part effectively enough to educate my brother at this point as well.
Anyway, so they are both young, they are both just starting in their careers, put in very long hours, and also don't have the most stable relationship. The dog is nervous and also poops all over the place. After hitting brick walls with the "free" vet that the pet store provides I insisted that they go to my LI vet and paid for it. The dog has Giardia. He is alone all day and poops like 10 times a day and eats it. It's been months of medication and the dog is not getting any better.
So my brother calls me and DH last night and says that he is going to have to find a new home for the dog. He can't take it anymore. He was looking for me to say its ok, but I just can't. Now though, what I really don't want to happen is that he puts off finding a home for it, and then before his upcoming business trip takes it to a shelter. I want to help him find a home for the dog. He is sweet and adorable, but full disclosure, whoever does take on this dog is going to have to be able to be with him all the time to at least get him healthy and train him. This is definitely not a dog that you can leave alone for hours. I don't even know where to start with this. My brother feels like if he brought the dog back to the pet store they will wind up putting him in a shelter themselves.
I realize that some may read this and connect me with my regular profile, and I really don't mind that. What I want to prevent by posting anonymously is for my family members to find this and see that I've written here about it.
If someone could please point me in the right direction I would be so grateful. Thanks very much.

I would research beagle and pug rescues and call and see if they can point you in the right direction. You can also contact shelters like Save-A-Pet and Little Shelter and see if they room and if not, they will do complimentary postings on their websites for adoption.
Good luck.

UGH= giardia is a beast of a parasite. We went through it for a LONG while after adopting our dog. I agree wholeheartedly with the PP about contacting a rescue org.
GL to you and to that poor puppy....

Re: Need help finding a home for dog - long
Thanks very much for your help!
I am compiling a list of places that he can go to and I am going to sit with my brother and make him do the work. He needs to learn that there are consequences for being so impulsive with another living thing. I am hoping this scares him straight.
I am so angry at him for being so irresponsible but I want to make sure that the dog goes to a good place and gets the help he needs.

Try Petfinder - but offer full disclosure.
The pet store will not take the dog back - they don't accept returns on puppies.
He is going to have to find a home or maybe try the Little Shelter or a pug rescue...they will rehabilitate him and then adopt him out.
If you go to the AKC.org website there are links for breed rescues in the area.

I don't really have any advice but I just wanted to offer some hugs to that poor pup.
I hope he finds a great forever home real soon!!

Thanks! I did not even think of the AKC or any pug rescues because I know that the puggle is not a recognized breed.
We will definitely try that.

I don;t know what to say. I have to be honest to say I am sickened when people do things such as this but I won't go on about that.
You are a great family member to try to help out. I don't have suggestions, I wish I did. I can't even begin to t hink what I woudl do if I was in your shoes. Heartbreaking

I agree with you and believe me, it has affected my relationship with my brother a bit that he would be so irresponsible.
DH and I would take him but he really needs to go to a home where he can be the primary focus and be with people that really have the time to work on getting him better. I am happy that I can financially assist and make sure that he does get every chance. I also hate that little bro gets bailed out as per usual.
The dog really is a sweetheart. He doesn't want to be bad and for people to be so frustrated with him. You can see it all over his face.

Good options. You may want to try either a local pug or a local beagle rescue ~ they may be willing to help or at least point you in the right direction

Re: Need help finding a home for dog - long
I agree with the above posters that a rescue org might be the best way to go. The Little Shelter is pretty good that way, and I definitely would contact the pug & beagle rescues. Even though a Puggle is technically not a recognised breed, the breed-specific rescues may offer some help if they themselves cannot.

I would try puggle.org they have dogs for adoption on there. The dogs are adopted very quickly. They go to homes where people are specifically looking for puggles to love and care for. Good Luck!! Hope this helps
