Need help please -Digital thermometer question

I *think* I was told if I am going to use the digital ear themometer on my newborn, that I should add 1 degree to the reading. Does anyone know if that is true???

Anthony hasn't been felling well and his temp is boarderline, but if I add the degree, it will be high I called the ped, but they are closed for lunch for another 45mins

do you have a rectal thermometer? that's the only one i have ever used, i know they are the most accuurate. i am pretty sure if you call the ped they are going to tell you to take his temp rectally anyway

no,I think that rule is if you are using an underarm thermometer.

Are you using rectal? than it should be what it says...

eta- oh, I missed that you are using an ear themometer - those are notirously inaccurate. def use a rectal thermometer to get a good reading..

fyi - my ped almost sent dd to er when she was 6 weeks b/c she had a high underam temp at the office. I insisted that we take a rectal before we rushed off - well lo and behold - it was in the normal range with the rectal temp.
