Need help! What to hang above my couch (w/pics) - UPDATED
So I just moved into my home last week and I still have a TON of things to buy.
My furniture is all traditional style that was purchased a good 8 years ago (most of it). My style has since changed to more transitional but I will not be purchasing new furniture for years to come because its far down on my priority list.
I feel like because the couch has such a busy pattern on it, I should keep it more simple, like a mirror or two mirrors side-by-side, or maybe a metal ornamental piece instead of a print.
Im really at a loss and I cant stand to look at it bare. Any suggestions??
ETA: I also plan on putting up a print on the other side to the T.V.
TIA!!!
(Dont mind the ugly ceiling fan)

I would definitely go with a mirror or a wrought iron piece.
Here is something I found at Pier 1 - you could hang it on it's side.

very cozy looking room! I think a mirror would be nice, it will reflect that light from the window. A set of three long rectangular prints would look great too.

Re: Need help! What to hang above my couch (w/pics)
I agree with everyone. Mirror or an iron piece would look nice. You can hang three or four mirrors up next to each other. The light would reflect really nicely.
And I see that you said your taste has changed to transitional. Are your cushions solid on the other side? Can you turn them over? If you can turn them over and it's solid like the rest of the couch, then you can buy new pillows at Home Goods and just update your style of a cheaper budget. I hope that idea helps you out in some way.
ETA: if you don't want to replace the ceiling fan right now, you can buy new light fixture and new blades. That would probably keep the cost down.

Re: Need help! What to hang above my couch (w/pics)
Thanks for your help!
I think Im going to go looking around for an iron piece/pieces or break up several smaller mirrors instead of one large one. The room is so small that mirrors may help it appear larger.
JldDolphin - I never even thought to turn the cushions around. Im going to see what I think of that tonight. Thanks for the idea
And as far as the "outdoor" ceiling fan (dont ask why they would put that there), I am moving the nice fan from the dining room to the living room and buying a nice hanging light fixture for the dining room.

I did and it looked good! Im thinking of keeping the three pillows in the back (turned to the plain side) because those are for back support and Im going to shop around this weekend for large throw pillows in other colors and see how that looks. The material of the couch is a thick corduroy so hopefully I can find a fabric that goes well with that.
Thanks again for the help!!

Great! You can mix and match textures and fabrics. Have fun with it. You can always return the pillows if it doesn't feel right in the room. Have fun shopping! Home Goods always has great selection of pillows. And some of them are paired together and are only $20.

Re: Need help! What to hang above my couch (w/pics)
You could do a "mirror collage" - several mirrors in different sizes but a similar shape to "break up" the space but still reflect all that sunlight. Another LIFer did this, and it looked amazing... Let me see if I can find a pic...

Re: Need help! What to hang above my couch (w/pics)
UPDATE!! 3/17/09
Ok so Im nearly finished decorating this room finally!! Dont mind how dark the room looks. I took the pics in the evening. The room is usually full of light.
I still have to switch out the celing fan and get new curtains but I got my BALI blinds finally! (60% off at JCPenny - thanks to Jen (JldDolphin) - you rock )
Opinions on the ensemble above the couch are more than welcome.
Thanks everyone for your help!!! Image Attachment(s):

I think it looks nice, but it just seems so small in comparison to the room.....I think a long(horizontal) mirror would look nice

I would most definitely go with a long mirror....on the wall to the left of the TV I'd consider a small piece of art or even a wall clock. Looks so pretty!

It looks great! So warm and cozy!
Only thing I would suggest would be try swapping your subwoofer cube and wheat with the urn and grass. The left side could use the taller so as not to interfere with the shelves and the right side could use the beefier bottom to hide the switch plates. Just a thought.
Your couches have a great slipcover shape so you can always try that when you're ready to go more transitional but I think they look cozy just the way they are!

Totally agree! And I think a longer mirror over the couch would work better. Great job Heather! Nice blinds.

Re: Need help! What to hang above my couch (w/pics) - UPDATED
Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
You would not believe how many times I bought things for above the couch and returned them. The woman at the return counter at Homegoods actually to me to measure the wall next time I get something so I dont have to make so many returns!
I will keep my eyes out for the perfect size mirror. That was my biggest problem. Nothing I found seemed to fit right in that space.
Ill have to see if I can convince the Hub to redo his wiring so we can move the sub to the other corner of the room because I also agree those items should be switched. I was just being lazy about it
Thanks again!!!

very pretty...
i agree with a larger rectangular framed mirror over the couch...
BUT... the smaller mirror does look nice with the sconce's on the sides of it...it helps fill the area in well.

Not sure if you looked there... the Christmas Tree Store had a bunch of mirrors. Great prices too.

you did a great job!!! the only thing i could think of is to maybe get a larger area rug. even though its a small area btw the 2 couches, i think a larger rug would look nice.
