need help with Adobe PhotoShot
Having never learned computers in school, I scrapped bits here and there and have learned quite a bit on my own. Recently a friend gave me PhotoShot and now she's busy on Wall Street with that mess so I really can't bother her about this. I figured out a lot on my own but I don't know how to merge three pictures into one. I'm guess that's what layering is, right?
And now what? I don't know where to get the help and the library was out of all the computer Dummy books. Is there any online help for this kind of this? I tried googling but had no luck.
Does anyone have a few minutes to tell me how to layer, or is it way beyond me?
Thanks so much.

Re: need help with Adobe PhotoShot
Do you meant photoshop?
How do you want them laid out? Just three sized together or can there be blank space in it? What size do you want the final product to be?

Re: need help with Adobe PhotoShot
What version of Photoshop do you have?
If you have CS3 you can use the Auto-Align and Auto-Blend commands to have the program do it for you. Put each image on it's own layer to begin with and then run the command (under the EDIT menu)
I am assuming you have 3 similar images and are trying to create a panoramic type effect. If you have 3 very similar images and are trying to blend objects from one image to the next (IE: borrow a better expression in a second image) don't run the Auto-blend.
You can purchase subscriptions to online training libraries such as Lynda.com.

Re: need help with Adobe PhotoShot
So sorry for the typo. I have PhotoShop 7.0. I want to take three my photos, one rectangular and two squares, and put them into one box with a width of 315 pixels. Length doesn't matter. So I will have the long photo to the left and the two squares next to it, one above the other. There can be lines separating the pictures.

Re: need help with Adobe PhotoShot
You can make a new layer for each photo. Then go to the original photo, copy and then paste it into a blank layer on the new document. Then you can move them around however you need them to be. If each photo is on it's own separate layer, you can focus on each one in case you make a mistake you don't have to worry about the whole document, just that layer.
I usually make a new layer for every photo and then a layer for Text.

Re: need help with Adobe PhotoShot
I learned how to use the program by going to youtube.com and watching videos. Do a search for photoshop layering and you'll get tons of results and it will show you step by step what to do

I *never* would have thought of that. I've been here all afternoon trying to figure out how to copy and paste one picture next to the other and trying to get it to stay where I put it. Save doesn't work. YouTube here I come! Thank you.

What will your final output for the images be? I ask because 315 pixels is very small. If you are looking to print the images, you generally want at least 300 dpi (or dots per inch) with a 315 pixel width that gives you slightly more than a 1" width. If your output is to screen you want 72 dpi, which would give you an image a little more than 3 inches wide.
What I would do is create 4 layers, one for each image and then a 4th layer that is all black, this can serve as the lines between the images. You can set up guides, 1st make sure your rulers are visible. If they are not go to View>ruler. Then with the arrow cursor click in the ruler area and pull out into your canvas, you will get a blue line. Move these lines around your canvas to mark where you want the edges of you images to fall. Go to View>Snap to>guides, so you can "snap" your pictures to the lines and the points where the lines intersect.
Next make one of the image layers current (by clicking on the layer in your palette) drag the image around the canvas and snap it to the guide line. Do the same with the remaing images. You can adjust where the guides are with the cursor tool, when you hover over a guide it will become a double arrow icon at that point you can grab your guide and move it to a new location.
