Need help with upholstery choices...if anyone wants to play.
so, we have made REAL progress this weekend with the design plan for our formal living room/entertaining room.
Ballard Design has won my heart and wallet, and they are having a sale this week (President's Day) that we are trying to take advantage of...so here goes.
we recently purchased THIS sofa from Macys.
our walls are painted a blue lighter, but similar to the arm chair in the above photo. our trim is white with the exception of the ceiling beam molding, which is chocolate brown.
we are accenting the room with blues, browns, creams, and a touch of red and silver.
so here is my dilemna.
I am planning to order 4 straight back armless chairs, 2 bar stools, and a wing chair.
we are installing a bar counter near the bar area for the two bar stools Marcello counter stool in Ecru Velvet
then, we are placing a octagonal gaming table in one corner of the room, and sitting 2 of 4 of these chairs at it Upholstered Couture Chair
and 2 of them across from our sofa facing the fire place (that we can easily pull up to the table for a 4-person game)
I wanted to upholster these in 2 differnet yet coordinating fabrics, so that standing alone they have their own personalities, but when joined at the table they work together. (ie, venetian brown for the two opposite the couch and a solid color (either the same as the bar stools or latte velvet for the two positioned at the card table)
finally, I want to get a wing chair to put on the other side of the fireplace from the card table, and positioned beind and to the right of the sofa.
and here is my real problem...do I upholster the chair in a like fabric as one of the other chairs, OR, do I do something completely different yet complimentary
here is the chair Thurston wing I am not digging it that much in a dark solid...and the sofa is off white velvet...so I am not sure. I like this fabric (Gisella floral <img src="http://a248.e.akamai.net/f/248/12335/6h/www.ballarddesigns.com/images/us/local/products/swatch/large/GIF.jpg" alt="External Image" />
like I said, we did plan on using some red accents which work nicely with the blue in the room...just not sure if it would be too much.
a refresher pic of our living room (that corner is where the gaming table will go)
if you've made it this far..THANK YOU!!!!!

I cannot for the life of me picture your set-up.
You'll have the sofa perpendicular to the left of the fireplace (when you;re looking at the FP), and the two chairs facing the couch in the Venetian Brown.
The gaming table will be to the right of the fireplace (when you're looking at the FP) and will have two solid color chairs.
Then the wing chair will be on the left of the FP? To balance the gaming table corner?
Do I have that right?

why yes, you do. and far more clearly than I explained it.
thank you!
the bar tools will be directly opposite the gaming table, across the room and to the right of the entry way.

Re: Need help with upholstery choices...if anyone wants to play.
hmmmm - I love the floral red but I think you're right - it would be too much maybe? But I do love that floral red. Damn.
I'm no help.
Can you do the two straight-backed chairs in the floral red? And the wing back in the Venetian Brown?
Then you'll have the Venetian Brown on the left and the solid brown on the right of the FP. So you'll have brown and brown on either side.
The sofa will be cream and pick up the cream from the floral red chairs... and the cream from the bar stools.
I LOVE that floral red and wouldn't want to give it up.

I think this chair with all the other pieces would look really nice together. Save the red & silver just as accent pieces, like pillows and vase, etc. I think the room is going to look great when you are done with it. Just pull it all together with the accent pieces.

Re: Need help with upholstery choices...if anyone wants to play.
What I find helpful is if you take all the different ideas you like (the pics) and place them all into something like PowerPoint or something like that where you can place pics. And keep changing it up with the different accent pieces with the couch being the same in all the pics. See which way you like it best. Also, find different accent pieces, the wall color and have all those pics in it too. I did this for my Den and it really helped me a lot to make decisions and it's fun to put together. Then print them all out and have your DH look at them. HTH! GL!

Call me crazy but I think the floral red would look great! It is kind of hard to envision your set up, but it's a really nice chair and the pattern will add a nice splash of color. Plus if you love it that much go for it! Post pictures when you all done with the room.

not sure if you are open to additional suggestions but i prefer this chair with the design and lines of the couch.
not sure what color your game table is but i really like these chairs. sold as a pair for $350. the colors match your palette but brings in a little more warmth.
