Need ideas for current events...

I received my first class set of Scholastic News, and am trying to come up with a fun and creative way to teach current events...

I teach 5th grade...any thoughts????

I do Current Events in the form of Time for Kids every Friday afternoon. I usually do the cover article with the kids. We read and discuss it and then I use it to focus on some type of non-fiction organizer/writing.
I use it for :
*5Ws
*Main idea vs details
*FQR
*Summary writing
etc....


I also split my class into groups and do independent CE each week.
On Monday, the kids get their assignment sheet. It is due Friday. They do a summary and a reaction. They share during Lit Block on Fridays.

This is for 4th.

i use time for kids too... LOVE it! also, the timefor kids website has a lot of interactive activities as well as worksheets you can print out that go along with that week's issue.
