Re: Need info for a friend regarding FEBRILE SEIZURES
Febrile seizures are caused by a spike in a fever. It can be pretty common and i have had a few at my day care (all which were scary and a few I called an ambulance for) Once a child gets them they have a tendency to get them again As far as I know they are mostly harmless. They are scary to watch and I am sure your friend is freaked out

My friends DD gets these too from high fevers, I feel so bad for her. She gets so nervous anytime her DD gets sick.

Re: Need info for a friend regarding FEBRILE SEIZURES
My daughter has 3 febrile seizures in one illness when she was 13 mos old. They are not harmful but very scary to witness. Luckily, she never had another one. She is now 5. They say that most kids grow out of them by the time they are 5yrs.

One important point is that it is related to how FAST the fever goes up, not really how HIGH it goes. So, a baby can have a seizure if the fever goes up to even 102 if it goes fast enough.

Re: Need info for a friend regarding FEBRILE SEIZURES
I had febrile seizures a few times as a kid- around2-3 years old to be exact. My poor parents are still scarred by it I think.
Once it happend while I was on the potty . Then again a few days later while my poor dad was giving me a bath.
It's pretty terrifying to see apparantly. My mom still talks about my father screaming, "She's DYING." and that I went blue. The PED told them the same thing the PP said. They are pretty common and due to a spike in temperature.
BTW: I suffered no ill effects. In fact, I'm pretty proud of my successes in life.

Re: Need info for a friend regarding FEBRILE SEIZURES
My daughter had a febrile seizure just a few weeks before her second birthday. I would be happy to talk with your friend about my experience if she is looking for other moms that have been through this.
The most important thing is that at the first sign of a fever to make sure that she stays medicated around the clock -- including waking up the child in the middle of the night as painful as that is for the first 24 hours of a fever. My doctor suggested alternating tylenol and motrin every four hours so that she is constantly dosed. That should keep the fever from spiking so much that it causes a seizure.
It has been 7 months and my daughter hasn't had another seizure.
Very scary, but not very dangerous, she should be fine!!!
